Sharing cuz it’s topical and I like seeing arguments.
I don’t consider this an attack on him and I can’t do a point-by-point criticism of everything, but tagging him anyway @Mister_E
Yeah I basically disagree with almost everything in the video except the last part where Mr. E says the balance is completely f-ked
HD2 exploded because it was the most egregious balance by spreadsheet ever seen and what happened was they nerfed the few good weapons when absolutely everything else did nothing. Darktide’s already bled off its initial playerbase, it’s not likely going to have a player revolt unless they turbo nerf everything possible into the ground. I mean… how many big content creators are even still playing Darktide?
I can’t really invest time nit picking the actual crux of his argument, cuz I’m bad at it, but a few things: the worst performing weapons are the way they are because they were never readjusted to match the power creep of Patch 14, when all of the elites were buffed (or since launch if you are a Combat Shotgun). They (being this very vague group of weapons) still do need a buff just to meet a level of performance for regular damnation. Headhunters, Infantry Lasguns, Helbores, Combat Shotgun, all of you already know the ones.
OP weapons meeting a base level of useability in the endgame mode is not a good reason to break the rest of the game with buffs, I don’t care how much disdain you have for casuals. I know you said we can’t and won’t literally buff a revolver to be as strong as a plasma gun, but I also don’t see how you buff it if not to counteract the enemy HP/mass buff and the ammo malus until it is as strong as a plasma gun. At that point it just looks like the easier answer is to remove the Havoc malus and nerf Havoc enemy HP.
I guess Fatshark has the ability to just make player power for Havoc completely separate from the main game; like they did with the Weaves in Vermintide 2. No one has said if they have wanted that. I don’t think it’s a thing anyone wants, but there it is all typed out in case that becomes a viable solution.
And I still believe the game cannot go harder than what Havoc is right now without breaking something or Fatshark having to do some miracle optimization to keep the game from melting CPUs.
Edit: heh, I’m an hour late and another thread already has this vid covered Mr E’s latest video - #97 by Enclave
