I don’t think that Operation are going to replace Missions in the future, but rather once in a while instead of a Mission they’ll do an Operation and/or an Assignment (Twin mission).
And those will serve as ways to make new tech work, like a full length mission on a Train would be quite bad (Though still hope we will see mission where we board a train to crash it, with cutscenes as the transition, like in VT2’s Enchanter’s Lair)
I’m actually a big fan of the idea of some shorter missions. For quick lunch breaks or getting one last game in before bed, the concept is great. Some work needs to be done on the execution, but yeah I’m all for more 10 min missions.

I’m looking more for 10-15 minute missions myself, but you’re acting like the two mission types are mutually exclusive. We can have both, you know.
Having more missions of this type would necessitate its own mission board, of course, as I can see folks wanting a shorter mission being put off should the two main boards not contain it, and folks who dislike Rolling Steel are already griping about not being able to use Quickplay.

I figure that’s probably the plan once they have more than one of them. I suppose it could just be another page of the mission hub but I figure they might give the job of “Operations Manager” to Commissar Dukane while the longer missions stay at the central hub.
Then we might eventually get our longer “expedition” style missions too. There’s still that second hive city, the “great evil” down in the deep, the ships on the edge of the system, and, of course, Nox Alpha itself.
