Fatshark has an anti-freedom player retention addiction

A beastiary and index/glossary in the game would be useful. Baffles me that they won’t add them.

Literally allergic to simple fixes

the game has improved so much over time and i am confident it will continue to improve like i quit playing early on because of the item mechanics before locked and loaded where so punishing it sucked the fun out of the game these major improvements don’t bring that many players in though, the one thing that might bring a surge of player is some kind of dlc or expansion with some really new and different content like dark omens but like if weaves were more accessible

Lmao, replace that skull with a pack of 8 Crushers and 4 Ragers for a Darktide classic.

You also cannot choose what Havoc rank you want to play on or what server region to play Havoc on, so that’s fun!

can’T you go first to mission terminal > options and select your region here, and then to havoc?

Curios gated by hourly shop rotation is my personal FOMO axe to grind. Is it because I downloaded the extension and checked in every 2 hours til I gots mine?

The unlock made curios much more interesting, and I immediately set about making perfect setups. And now I want more so I can have more loadouts hot to go! I’ll wait though, and hope this year is curio year..

Gambling I simply don’t have the patience for.

I don’t see why you get few good curios. I use to check the shop only for God rolls since the unlocked patch, basically irrelevant, but I still grab every 21h / 17t / 3s just to convert dockets into something useful, and I don’t even know how many of them I have.

P.s. I guess I’ll sort out those below 420 or at least 410 at some point because of this bug

2,5 years later..
They have had 2,5 years to make the game “complete/improved/in a good state/in a healthy state” - whatever that means. Credit where credit is due, things have gotten better since launch, however: does it feel complete by now? Not even remotely so.

I weep.

I weep for the fact that Fatshark is sitting on a gold mine of lore and resources to implement into the game, but haven’t.

I weep for the potentially awesome stories they could have implemented into the game
but haven’t.

I weep for all the cool weapons and classes they could have introduced into the game but haven’t.

I weep for all the fundamental gameplay balances and optimisations they could have implemented, but haven’t.

I weep.

Where you see anti-freedom and fomo, I see carefully walking the line for sustainable low player base game.

It has gone from extremely limited and unable to get your blessings / stats perfect to everything available with the time sync of playing the game and re-rolling. It may be a slight player time sync / inconvenience but it’s also just easier interface and implementation from what came before it… which you could have FS working on interface or have them working on actual player retention content.

I believe this was an attempt to consolidate player base from missing each other with too many modes… that we have gradually grown to many and are now missing each other. Similarly, the player character creation was more to allow duplicate classes rather than true MMO personalization.

Yah both of these were an attempt to retain players… which they did score a significant short term boost, but not more than prior months balance patches.

I see Fatshark as constantly taking time but using it to make radical attempts at player retention that sadly often fail (Weaves, Last Stand, Beastmen, Chaos Waste(mixed), PVP, Maelstrom, Auric, Special Assignments, Havok and Mortis Trials) It’s a hard place to be in as every attempt also further divides player base… may need some sort of quick play, lobby or focused secondary mode simply to keep players matching.

The monetary FOMO microtransactions i think have a dual purpose. 1 to limit ourselves and whales from the worst inclination of overspending and 2 to provide a more steady income and less predatory skin bombardments through “pay to be cool” even more so… WoW store crept up from tiny purchases to everything for MONEY.

I think players and Fatshark have the same problem…People don’t know what they want but ask / provide things that people think they want.

Im there as well, hence my bitterness.

I think I’m primarily mad about the lack of mobs, from the near infinite lore.

Soooo yeah I wouldn’t necessarily want to trust the unwashed masses with game balance (that said there have been some stellar analyses) but I think it’s clear that Fatshark has a vision and isn’t willing to compromise much on it.

Unlocked & Loaded I still very much see as a player-driven patch, and a massive win all round.

Havoc on the other hand, was Fatshark’s home-grown appeal to hardcore players and as far as I can tell it’s a mixed result at best. If they had given players what they wanted we’d have custom lobby creation/browser which in my unwashed opinion would be far better for tailoring difficulty.

All this stuff, it could be seen as content for the content-hungry gamer, but my gut feeling is that it’s just part of the vision and damn the rest. I don’t doubt they have pitches and meetings to justify it but it seems to me that they’re just gonna do what they want (over and over again).

None of these modes wouldn’t be better if you allowed players to modify them and host a lobby.

Forgot to mention, for better or worse if they rewarded Acquilas for gameplay those charts would reach low-earth orbit :rocket:

Temporarily, until players bought everything and had to wait 2 weeks. We’d see more emphasis on opening up all products for sale… while diminishing Fatshark’s income and future content drops for lack of money.

It’s especially sad because by the time VT2 got an entire new enemy faction (a third one) Darktide had one newish enemy: The tox bomber.
Now, 1 full year later, we still only have dregs and scabs which are glorified recolors of eachother and I’d count as one faction. New maps don’t even have new bosses, they get scab captain recolors.

I think it stands to reason that Fatshark is so obsessed with player retention because they’re not making enough content for this gaem to keep people hooked otherwise and they know it.
