Chain weapons buff idea

Thrust is the only way the Mk12 is good. The mk4 doesnt need it and doesnt really benefit from it but its basically the exception to the rule.

It wouldn’t? If by suppression you mean the in-game mechanic of suppression, it only works against Shooters, Stalkers, Gunners and Groaners. Any melee elite, or even a Poxwalker for that matter doesn’t care about suppression in the slightest.

Not to mention that there’s usually a myriad of other hazards to be considered on higher difficulties, so even if it staggered everything around you it’d still be a questionable choice.

The core issue is how helpless you are when executing it coupled with the brunt of the damage being delivered in the last tick which combined lead to the result where it’s entirely ineffective groups since you won’t be able to go through the entire animation safely. And enemies in this game almost exclusively come in groups.

The problem is input delay/buffering and animation length.

Press your special, wait for it to activate, press your heavy attack and wait, wait for the animation to play as it lands, obscures vision and locks you into targeting one enemy up close completely negating any ability to check around you for extra horde spawns, then you have the massive delay compared to other better armor clearing weapons before you can even hit another carapace armored enemy. If it were closer to psyker staves in terms of usability there’d be no issue with the current levels of damage, but it gives up way too much for absolutely no gain and is inferior in every single way to other weapons. If it charged quicker, activated quicker and the animation was done faster it would be so much more viable. But as they are chain weapons are designed to look and feel weighty for first time players, not to be viable in anything above malice against armor mid horde.

You know something else just occurred to me about chain weapon specials. As far as I know tick rate is set in stone. So your most powerful attack doesn’t get to scale with attack speed unlike most other things melee related.

I know it doesn’t make a heap of realism sense, but maybe having tick rate scale with attack speed (and therefore being able to get to the final tick quicker) could be a somewhat metered buff to them?

Is this just my attempt to make them better for my beloved Martyr Zealot? Maybe :smiling_face_with_horns:
