I use it primarily on builds that need a supplemental long-range or “heavy damage” option, such as with an Inferno Staff.
I’m reasonably certain I have a full understanding of it. Empowered Psionics and Kinetic Resonance are the primary contributors to supporting it, while you can also get some bonus from Warp Rider (though, Warp Rider and Empowered Psionics do conflict, as Empowered Psionics stops peril build-up on consumption).
At that point, with even all of those going…it ends up being a poor option for tackling most jobs that fall under its purview. What it is great for is hitting the occasional sniper the rest of your team is too busy to shoot. But when you see a Bulwark and it’s legitimately more efficient to mark it for the Veteran to delete rather than use your shield-bypassing “heavy damage” option, it has unfortunately started to become irrelevant. That is what it comes down to: if you find an enemy worth using it on, but you start and that enemy can be gone before you can complete it, Brain Rupture as utility no longer has a place in the team. You can talk about the “human element” all you like, but it is almost always more valuable for the team for that threat to be removed rather than have to wait on you.
Look, this a symptom of of the game’s balancing issues as a whole. Brain Rupture can best be described as “adequate”, if a Tox Flamer rounds the corner behind your team and for some reason shooting or stabbing it isn’t an option, Brain Rupture will take care of it. But in a state dominated by Dueling Swords, Plasma Guns, and the Point-Blank Barrage Achlys, Brain Rupture is no longer holding its own. If they aren’t going to get the spiraling damage issues under control, Brain Rupture and many of Psyker’s other options are going to need addressing, and I think we’ve hit that time.
I agree… but player problem. When you use BB, you invalidate also the target. And here is the problem of barbarians that kill everything just cause they can (and they can cause they use something far more powerful and faster to kill).
And that’s fine. I just stated an opinion, and I can be wrong
But that’s just me, and I am a bad psyker
I would not mind that they reduce the time needed to use BB… but I am not sure it would not make it OP.
What difficulty do you generally play on? I’d extend the question to others that feel this way.
Because at least for me on Auric Damnation / HiSTG there are more than enough priority target at any given moment that I rarely feel like my BB kills are being “stolen.” Or maybe I’m just playing with an eye towards using it on less obvious threats that others on the team might not notice?
On lower difficulties where elites and specialists are less numerous and more isolated, the kill stealing aspect of it is more apparent because everyone is scrambling over fewer enemies to kill and get on the kill feed.
Standard Damnation most of the time. I can respect people that enjoy Auric, I don’t appreciate the extra frustration it produces at times when there’s no real reward benefit for it. When I do play it, I use a support-focused build taking Smite as I feel I get much more mileage out of keeping my teammates fighting than what the other blitzes usually provide.
On standard Damnation, I’m currently using an Assail build dabbling with guns as I’m usually more of a staff enjoyer. The original intent in this case was to use Voidstrike with the Surge blessing to nuke elites. It had a better return rate than using Brain Rupture for it, but was still a very long way off from challenging options like the Plasma Gun.
I do have one build that currently uses Brain Rupture to supplement the weaknesses of the Inferno Staff, but that build only sees use with my friends that prefer playing on Malice.
My impression of Brain Rupture on Auric Damnation specifically, as someone who plays it only occasionally, is that it exacerbates the weaknesses of the blitz. There are certainly more targets for it, but that also means that combined with the higher breakpoints of Damnation, Empowered Psionics becomes less reliable. This of course results in it being even slower overall, and the slower Brain Rupture is, the less time you end up spending actively contributing. Given the option between repeatedly Brain Rupturing a target or locking down the enemies around a player who can kill it instantly, I find it more effective to choose the latter - though that does rely on the teammate understanding the reason the enemy is marked.
For the purposes of the discussion, I feel it’s worth noting I do not use the scoreboard mod, so my opinions are based mostly on “feel” and “How often am I in the kill feed?” I’m not overly bothered by “kill stealing” in itself, but since it is so easy to do with Brain Rupture I am left thinking “What’s the point of the blitz if it does an inferior job so much slower?” After all, nobody wants their preferred class to be the bad one, so they do need to be “competitive” with each other - and Brain Rupture doesn’t seem to be at this time.
