Bolt Pistol ADS recoil animation glitches interfering with player aim

Issue Type (Required):

Animation

Issue Description (Required):

I think I’ve finally gotten to the bottom of this infuriating glitch. As far as I can see, there are two distinct issues with the Bolt Pistol animation.

Issue 1. The most critical:
While using the bolt pistol in ADS: after firing a shot, during the duration of the recoil animation, moving the crosshair downwards or upwards over the original point of aim when the trigger was pulled, will result in the pistol jerking over it, as if avoiding that spot (imagine reverse aim assist.) Obviously this wreaks havoc with micro aim adjustments.

Issue 2. Slightly less intrusive, but would love a fix or different approach:
When the recoil animation ends (assuming the abovementioned glitch hasn’t also been triggered,) the position of the weapon on the screen jerks toward a seemingly random point in the idle sway animation, instead of smoothly transitioning to it. Sometimes the random point happens to be close enough to the end frame of the recoil animation that it isn’t noticeable, but quite often it’s a jarring jump.

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

Issue 1.

  1. In any mission including Psykanium, equip Bolt Pistol and aim down sights at a neutral background for clarity. Stay in ADS for test consistency.
  2. Fire a shot, then while the approx. 1 second recoil animation plays out, move the crosshair slightly down and up over the bullet decal a few times. The jerks in animation are very noticeable and intrusive.

Issue 2.

  1. In any mission including Psykanium, equip Bolt Pistol and aim down sights at a neutral background for clarity. Stay in ADS for test consistency.
  2. Fire a shot. Right after the recoil animation has played out, the gun’s position appears to jump or jerk slightly to what I assume is a random point in the idle sway animation. Again, sometimes it lines up smoothly, but quite often it jerks quite a distance to resume the idle animation.

In the supporting evidence clip, I demonstrate Issue 1 first, then Issue 2 immediately after.
Clip was recorded on 3 November 2024 around 10PM South African time. (Sorry I tried to keep the file small, best I could manage.)
