An crutch to help Darktide current state

So imho , broadly, much of Darktide problem comes from over the top AOE and ranged dmg.

The only reliable moment where poeple got to interact with an enemy and dodge its attacks are captain bosses, because their shield is so resistant to ranged dmg.

While ideally it would be balanced (nerfed) , weapon by weapon, talent by talent, it would take a lot of work and time and seems to anger a significant amount of poeple. A simpler help would be imho to introduce more enemies that are , like bosses, resitant to ranged and AOE. Imagine 2-3 elite crushers with 75% ranged /AOEresistance… So the current op AOE/ranged has still use against most enemies, but there would be more instances where players have to actually interact with the enemy.

if thats the “pot/kettle” crowd, how is that a bad thing?

what about the rest that’s angry about the current state?

For us it isnt a prbolem - for fatshark with the hostory of review bombing of darktide- i guess it might be.

the game makes revenue at purchase, being mad about op toys getting adjusted aint no reason for a refund.

player count right now already show the tourists moved off to greener pastures.

rather brace the “review bomb” as if smart players aint taking such whining into account when trying the game and those who do… well lets say they aint exactly the enriching type anyways.

servers got paid with the OGs and low playercount through 2023 so my guess is cosmetics & new purchases keep it afloat just fine.

personal pov, the higher the player count the lower the quality of matches anyways.
and bothering with bumping into the same dudes ever so often :man_shrugging:

New enemies who were immune to DoTs would be a big step. Right now DoTs are the biggest problem in the game. Firstly, of course, tox poison from Hive Scum, which just deals insane damage to everything regardless of ammo type - and for the Needle Gun has infinite ammo.

And even with that out of the way we then have Flame Staff, which spreads DoTs so well. I feel like the easiest first step to try with it is to significantly shorten its range. It SHOULD just actually have to account for cleave, but I get the feeling that maybe doing all the cleave checks when spraying into 100~ enemies could cause a lot of slowdown. Perhaps I’m wrong, but just shortening its reach by like half would at LEAST mean less enemies are getting DoTs put on them.

Honestly, I would actually support both of these weapons being removed from the game. XD I know it will never happen, but I just loathe them both deeply. Needle Gun is so intensely boring and overpowered that it just has no upside. Flame Staff absolutely diarrheas my screen with blue flames that it becomes incredibly hard to see anything, and, of course, just removes a lot of the challenge from the game.

If they were gone, high Havocs would be a lot more interesting.

I’m pretty tired of the direction Fatshark designers are taking the game in. Overbearing ranged options: Soublaze, toxin based, explosives which wipe whole arenas of virtually all enemy types. Absolutely unnecessarily return of Point Blank Barrage as a useable ability. All combo’ed with dogshit selection of Havoc modifiers like Cranial which sends you flying every time someone hits an affected enemy.

A simpler solution would be balancing those options so they aren’t so safe and attractive damage output and risk wise. I doubt Fatshark will do it, so sadly the first solution is basically gatekeeping in Havoc lobbies. Yet another way how poor game design decisions make the game more “toxic” and Havoc lobbies being even more dead in the long run.

Can I have some fun with non-instant kill melee weapons in my Havoc lobby? Instead of being used as a makeshit target for a psyker with a hoover or Ogryn pretending to be a vet behind me? Thanks.

so… like, an armor that protects against ranged hits, and eventually you wear it down, but because it’s nurgle themed it might be called something like… rotten armor?

Review bombing because a crutch gets correctly adjusted would be sad, no dignity.

Its tottaly incorrect because rotten armor protects against all damage, pushing you towards using ranged/AOE. And i never said anything about wearing it down.

Its not a simpler solution. A more elegant, better solution maybe. But its a much more complicated solution, which would reuire many many times the work of my crutch.

uhm kinda what customers/consumers/players expect as a baseline quality instead of the duct tape solution?

i mean a dirty fix in need is ok once or twice, but as a development strategy going forward…
