Knifes and pistols in every game. Even bolt pistol looks better than normal bolter
Let me check the notes here…
Less of a Small vs heavy thing and more of a situation calling for smaller calibre weapons.
plus all the mini and arts using melee weapons and a pistol
When a fight is going with knives and pistols, it looks more like a gangsta shootout
It’s because FS has forgotten that the iconic 40k weapons should get most of the spotlight rather than their own homebrews.
Except every weapon has to be vetted by GW and all the things FS does are based on miniatures and/or lore
I’m going to stop myself before I fall down the “I wish we had 4 (or 5) main characters like V2” hole.
I’d say you’re half right in GW having to sign off on it, but find me some source material referencing double barrel shotguns or hyper powerful revolvers, I’ll wait.
Esher Sawn-off Shotgun (Necromunda)
Epitaph (Bounty Hunter)
A highly modifiable sawn-off shotgun pattern popular, amongst the gangers and hired guns Necromunda
Incisor Shotgun (Wrath and Glory)
Hack shotgun
Known by a wide variety of nicknames on different worlds, this is a conventional double-barrel shotgun, cut down to the smallest possible size and rigged to fire both of its barrels at once from a single trigger pull. Although very short-ranged and hardly a precision weapon, the twin blast is still devastating against unarmoured targets, and the sight of one can have a very salutary effect on bystanders. A Hack is no substitute for a true combat weapon though, as many a ganger faced with carapace-armoured enforcers has found to their cost
As for the revolver I won’t lie and pretend that it’s not strong more so from the balance of it’s drawbacks (Slow reload, small magazine), but there are both Man-stopper Ammo and Dum Dum rounds which could explain why it’s quite strong.
Amputator Shells - Filled with explosive micro-shrapnel, these bullets are designed to shear flesh and shatter bone, causing limbs to be blown away.
Expander Rounds - Vicious and outlawed on some worlds, these dense shells are designed to shred open after impact, creating huge exit wounds.
Man-Stopper Bullets - These dense-material tipped bullets are designed to punch through most forms of personal armour.
The examples of double barrel shotguns you see in 40k art (and IIRC the one model in the entire current range that has one), are basically large hand cannons and don’t even have a unique profile. These are among the rarest portrayed weapons in 40k for the same reasons they’re often available in many places today where firearms are otherwise almost legally impossible to obtain, because they’re really bad as actual weapons.
Their use and portrayal is basically in 40k is very similar to where one sees such shotguns used by combatants in real life, places that can put a couple tubes and a trigger mechanism together without needing much in the way of moving parts but don’t have much in the way of anything better.
What we got in Darktide is a very traditional stocked hunting shotgun made in a professional factory at some expense, the modeled weapon would be insanely expensive to produce IRL, and certainly doesn’t look to be wielded single-handed like most other 40k portrayals of such weapons. We basically got a 40k skin of the Doomguy’s Super Shotgun.
Simple
after suffering poor ranged combat for nearly 2 years, only real solution is spam knife heavy attack and slide, to close in faster and push ranged AI into melee stance.
also how dashing makes you immune to everything, even to nukes , you can solo everything. deamonhost, 6 crusher, 20 mauler, whole scab legion.
Was this meant to be a reply to me or to the topic ?
And many people don’t play with the Knife, it should be nerfed, though not sure how, maybe multi stage heavy attacks
I’ll just link these here because they’re pretty exhaustive. Shotgun - Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Stub gun - Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
I ain’t denying the existence of weapons resembling what we have in the game, I’m more so making the point that those are not at all what fans of the setting would (generally) put front and center in their potential arsenal of 40k weaponry. Have them in the game by all means, but don’t make them enormously outshine all the actual iconic weapons of 40k and skew every build towards stuff that thematically and aesthetically almost no one gives a damn about. Never mind the fact that many of these obscurities were implemented in the game prior to some far more exciting stuff, the Bolt Pistol and revolver dynamic being a recent example.
But it’s not like this is unusual:
Folding shovels outperform Thunder Hammers.
Revolvers outperform Bolt Pistols.
Headhunter Autoguns outperform Lasguns and makes Longlas’ redundant.
Knives outperform most chain weapons in armour piercing damage on average and so on and so forth.
Ops, should be to topic, why did it choose you? maybeeee, of your name? WAIT A HERETIC?
From what I understand there seems to be two things fundamentally at odds here:
- The reality that there are weapons better than others in the world of 40k.
- The expressed desired to have every weapon balanced and equal.
There are no way to reconcile this without offending someone.
May i have a word?
U know that bolt gun is not suited for ordinary people? Its a gun that literally shoots ROCKETS like machine gun. Its made for emperor angels, not rejects. Its not amusement that we have castrated versions of heavy weapons that lacks of their power.
We are small group of saboteurs after all.
Guard have always used bolters, though not as general issue. Sisters of Battle use as general issue. Most commissars have bolt pistols. The ammunition is generally available.
And we’re special forces working for an inquisitor with access to the arms of the warband.
Knife and pistol have superiority in Darktide because it’s badly balanced in favor of being able to move fast over being able to reach, and you can get around and get back much faster with those, as well as being able to swap fast.
The more difficult the level - the more threats need to react fast. Even on psyker i decide to be as fast as i can just because i can protect myself and do my job (kill elite and special stuff) effectively.
Im not able to do fast swing swing as zealot can (and so i cant fully use of my beloved catachan sword just because im too slow with it (and im mention not speed of run, but speed of weapon)).
im not able to be oneshot machine because im not able to use plasmagun
Im not able to be strong and healthy as ogryn. In maelstorms im literally glass cannon
So knife and laspistol is my choice
Aye yeah, the array of weapons Fatshark chose to develop here has a lot of weird inclusions that are just fundamentally impossible to make equally viable, and it’s really hard to understand why Fatshark would choose to include a lot of these weapons when they’re both narratively awkward and difficult to balance.
