It doesn’t matter how often you keep declaring the game dead, Darktide lives and so does Fatshark.

No, the launch of VT2 wasn’t any better either. Doesn’t matter.
May patch with new khantent incoming. 😃

The launch of VT2, while patchy, wasn’t anywhere near the absolute fiasco Darktide is. There was many more classes, loads more maps that you could _choose_ to play once you’d gone through them all once. Varying difficulties that could be augmented with Deeds or Twitch mode.

Darktide had none of this at launch and still doesn’t. It’s simply failed to launch.

Could be new. In truth it is probably delayed, like the previous “content drops”.

Everyone wants new things added to this game when there are still broken, buggy, badly implemented or missing parts of this game that haven’t even been addressed by FatShark. Never mind systems that should be reworked from the ground up like match making, crafting and the lobby system.

I’ve got 400 hrs logged. I joined beta (albeit not with many hours), and I’ve suffered through the many crashes, bugs, and general frustrations.

The game has been worth 40 quid. Despite the disappointments and painful game experience at points. Anyone here has had 40 quids worth of value, easily. What’s that these days? A meal out? 2-3hrs salary on average ?

But I won’t buy the next Fatshark game on launch. Reason being: I bought the game off the back of a mature vt2, it was good, and I wanted to play with friends and team mates who’d gotten in to that . They all saw how painful it was and just stopped playing. Playing with random people is OK, but not what I was hoping for

I cba with that again.

We’ll see what the big patch later in May brings. But I’m leaning towards just hanging this one up for the time being.

Of my close group of friends, all of them stopped playing about a month ago and it would take a lot to bring them back.

Damnation at normal difficulty is too easy, and above that it’s fun but so chaotic I feel like you win or lose based on RNG (assuming the team feels solid otherwise).

Yeah, there are more weapons and build combos Id like to try out. But the RNG in the crafting system is so random that’s its total crapshoot whether you can get what you want in a reasonable time or not. To the point that it’s just frustrating more than anything.

The missions are fun in the moment, but the overall loop is just a drag and I’m losing my interest ☹

Fixing a bunch of systems we’ve all been playing with for 6 months is boring as hel. Its literally the opposite of what they should do if they want to get and keep players. Things are livable. Its time to deliver content and fix systems along the way. Hel, its been that way for the last karking 5 months.

What systems? New classes and maps and weapons are anchored to the systems as they already exist.

The crafting system and other non-gameplay systems are so bad they are either largely ignored and avoided wherever possible or cause players to leave. But obese fish hasn’t changed direction or communicater anything on that front and despite all the complaining about crafting I don’t think its the true source of pain anyway. I hate it as much as anyone. But I’m not going to quit darktide because my 370 hammer isnt a 378 hammer. I’ going to quit darktide because i can’t be arsed to grind for mats on any other classes and they’re all level 30 anyway so i don’t have anything capturing my attention.

A simple fix it list:

> buff garbo weapons
> eliminate the possibility of rolling double low intensity for missions
> always have 1 hi int in damnation.
> make crafting resources account wide
> #breakthelocks
> add 2+ maps
> add 2+ classes
> add 4 new patterns and 6 new marks of weapons.

All of this should happen within May and June. The tech debt can be woven in over the next 6 months. To be clear that’s about what would have been good as a plan. If fatshark can muster half the new content listed the game will survive. I suspect this game is going on ice though. It can be saved, but its not looking up from where i’m sitting.

And even those developed weapon systems are still dealing with broken mechanics like non-functioning blessings or weapon bugs, etc. Just like the new “skins” were simply recolors and even that they screwed up with the no-skin bug. Also the crafting system being garbage is just a sympton of the the terrible job fatshark did at play testing this game. To think they’ll put out polished content and systems is ignoring their past failures even when they roll out stuff that is “already anchored” in the game.

I’m arguing that demanding they push new content will only create more of a mess because they have yet to demonstrate they can handle releasing new content without introducing bugs or broken/unfun gameplay loops. E.g. Kantrel shotgun that could shot through walls and previous set of penances that were anti-team.

This has, almost to a T, also been my experience with the game. The game itself is very fun, but there’s very little to keep me or my friends playing. Our enjoyment of V1 and V2 did not come from repeatedly bashing our heads into the same thing over and over again via quickplay, it was working as a team and developing strategies to complete the hardest challenges in the game and earning the rewards associated with them.

As others had said, V2 offered a lot more for us to do on launch out the gate (more weapon/class experimentation, Deeds, the jumping puzzle in the Keep, and even Twitch mode) that could retain our interest. ~3 months later we got Okri’s Challenges with new cosmetics and, well, challenges, ~5 months later (about a month after the Xbox release), we had Bogenhafen with 2 new maps and new cosmetics.

~4 months after that we received Back to Ubersreik with Fortunes of War and new weapons (coinciding with the PS4 release). Things slowed down a bit after that, but it was enough to keep us coming back regularly for the first year of the game’s life. Eventually, ~8 months later when Winds of Magic came out with Cataclysm difficulty amongst other things, it was a good excuse to jump back into the game for a few months.

* * *

Unfortunately, Darktide continues to sorely lack this. The best thing they ever did for the health of the game, seemingly unintentionally, was the introduction of high intensity gauntlet maps. They effectively fill the same niche deeds did at the launch of V2. But with the inability to reliably play them, they aren’t exactly conducive to organized group play. And, while fun, they lean a bit too chaotic to really be able to sit down and create a strategy for.

The recent batch of achievements and cosmetics are nice, and certainly will help with new player engagement, but I finished almost all of them by just doing one round of weekly quests. They’re a bit of a step in the wrong direction if they’re aiming to retain their more experienced player base, which is probably why the general reaction to this update has been pretty subdued. It also shows their priorities are still on polishing the initial user experience.

This is essentially it. We need both more difficult challenges to work towards, but also honest to god new content. The current mindless repetition and RNG of the game has not exactly encouraged me to engage deeply with the systems or really master becoming a better player. But even if that wasn’t an issue, we do need a steady drip of content to give us something new to engage with occasionally. Feeling like the story of Atoma is actually advancing through these updates would help a lot, too.

Fixing broken systems alone does not exactly lead to me wanting to play the game more.

I took about a month off back between the apology letter and the Blessings of the Omnissiah patch. The recent achievements drop kept me occupied a week longer than I’d expected, but I’m about to put the game down again until the late-month content drop. How long I play following it will heavily depend on the quality and quantity of the content as well as their ability to follow up on it. It could be the best update ever, but if the next one isn’t for 3 more months my interest is going to fizzle out again pretty quickly.

That was one of 10 weapon marks released that patch. As far as I know the remainder did actually work. As much as there are plenty of
justified reasons to make fun of Fatsharks sequential buggy failures. They deserve credit where they succeed.

Buggy content is way better than no content.

I agree. But i don’t make recomendations based on their track record but on what a competent dev team could reasonably achieve and/or what the game needs to be a succesful product.

Then you’re not basing your recomendations on the objective reality that is Fatshark.
