The Thunderhammer’s normal and charged attack swings performance and issues are a subject of some conversation elsewhere. However here I want to focus on the VFX for deathblows with the hammer’s charged attacks.
Current Behavior:
On death the enemy receives a visual damage effect and glowing edge around the focal point of the blow. This looks cool, apparently flaying the skin and sinu of the enemy. The enemy then either typically falls over i the direction of the swing or preserves some momentum while dying. Lighter enemies may even change direciton entirely based on swing direction.
This can result in hilarious cartwheeling muties or dead stops, which are fun and satisfying. Ogryn enemies tend to fall backwards as they die. Poxwalkers tend to cartwheel through the sky. None of these are bad, and are quite fun and amusing.
Proposed Behavior:
Thunderhammers are some of the strongest melee weapons in lore. They are known to crush or explode enemies on strikes. Rip off arms or last off legs.
I would propose that, much like explosives blow enemies into giblets, enemies struck and killed by a thunder hammer should blow up into bits in a shower of blood and body parts. Ideally the shower would fly in the direction of the swing, powered by the impact. This should include Ogryn.
