The problem of meta-shaming players who follow the meta and want to see meta compositions in their lobbies

I never cared for Havoc, barely touched it - maybe 3 missions - but I loathe the game’s current rotten balance. The relatively narrow meta - and a host of other issues - is a symptom of bad balance.

I’m not at all a top player, but when I start soloing monsters and even clutching at a difficulty I previously found too hard, just because I chose a particular build or even carry a particular weapon, I know there’s a problem. And I can also read and think, so my opinion is not based entirely on my own in-game experience.

trying-im

like when i see someone using relic blade yea is strong but it doesn’t feel broken nor i get annoyed for people using it. while broken stuff are simply not fun, because overpowered that basically makes the difficulty not challenging as intended. all of this just because fatshark is not doing proper balancing.

most problematic things in darktide are rumbler, constant stagger explosions, taunt, smite, purgatus, flame thrower, psyker in its entirety, mobility of certain weapons and how easy is outrunning and speedrunning. chorus imo should give golden toughness only if you get the defensive subnode holy aura and voc shouldnt give any golden toughness at all. and now skitarii for certain things and the list isnt even over

This entire post is honestly hilarious. We got hundreds of posts about how a scoreboard is SO toxic and provides NOTHING to the game other than TOXICITY.

MEANWHILE: Havoc exists, we got people actively downloading mods to gatekeep and keep specific people out of their party all while creating one of the most ACTUAL toxic and unenjoyable gaming environments I’ve had the displeasure of experiencing. You can’t make this sh*t up.

18+ content be advised

and if taking the offensive subnode, golden toughness is denied, but then you have the flame aoe thing that people are glazing and advocating for it along with the dmg aoe shared, which would result in more variation, since people always take the defensive subnode anyway.

The first thing that comes to mind is the grenadier Ogryn with Barrage. Those guys shred through elite hordes in both Maelstrom and Havoc 40 at crazy speed, with insane range too—half the time I can’t even get to the enemies before they’re blown apart and left near death. So when I load into Maelstrom and see a grenadier Ogryn on my team, I just leave immediately. I’m all for nerfing that build. Inferno is manageable by comparison—slower damage ramp, shorter range, and it doesn’t hit Ogryn enemies as hard. I can kill faster than Inferno in Maelstrom, and in Havoc I can clean up the Ogryns that Inferno can’t handle. As for other builds, I don’t think they’re on the same level, and they don’t really ruin my fun. Arc Rifle is maybe half a case.

Meta-Sreta - there’s special place in hell for ppl that bring and overuse smite as Psykers.

I mean even if he would do gazzilllion dmg - that is selfish and lame gameplay.

Ok comrade get back to your socialist country. You wanna censorship? go live in NK. Typical leftist approach…

I personally don’t think any less of someone using full meta and wanting a full meta team to climb. I’m ok accepting H20-30 players in my H40 party even if they use meta

But come on, if you’re assignment 40 already, and request to join a H40 lobby while playing DS/Knife + inferno + shriek + warp siphon, I’m gonna defenitely call you boring, but most likely reject them right away

Like you’ve already gotten up there, you shouldn’t be playing the easiest OP stuff anymore, since it forces everyone else to also do that if they wanna have fun

Be a little more fun, use Voidblast Scriers Gaze, or melee Psyker, which are still extremely OP but at the very least the rest of the lobby will be able to have a lot more fun

Oh great, now you’re going to summon the hordes of gamers who will scream about how havoc isn’t a real difficulty and the game shouldn’t be balanced around it.

I think people are way to muvh correlating winning game with having fun game. Games are about having fun, winning of course give fun, but up to the point. There comes a moment when simply winning is getting stale. This moment in Darktide happens when you hit HAR 40 and play on it for some time.

Winning for 11th time thanks to purgatus and arc-rifle clearing everything without your input, is simply sucking out fun from the game. I’d very much prefare to have team of most wacky builds and die tryinf half way map.

Thats why we at the top are whinging about meta builds, it is just boring, unfun.

I can all but guarantee that anyone scalding other players over “meta” builds are using gameplay mods without any irony or self awareness, so feel free to ignore and block any such player.

I genuinely can’t imagine the mindset of someone who needs to throw shade at someone else for their build in DT tbh. Like…why is it necessary?

Never said it is weird, it is boring and tired and overtuned.

It is a joke you would compare Darktides balance to mythic raids in WoW. Mythic raids do not require insane perfect min-max gear. Darktide is so poorly balanced you could have 3 people just running chorus and one flame staff and walk through every H40.

You can not get away with running a full party of Tanks with one DPS or something similar in mythics. Most raids require a huge amount of execution and everyone doing their part, nothing in Darktide is remotely similar or difficult. No one here is saying you have to run grey weapons and no curios or something (super doesn’t matter in general as these are sub 10% of a power boost compared to the overtuned class talents and specific outlying weapons which is the problem).

There is nothing wrong with being competitive, but general players who even remotely understand the game, understand the issues with the outliers in this game.

Online Scoreboard H40 filtered by damage

Hmmmm I notice a weird pattern, can someone help me with this?

Seriously tho, if you’re already assignment 40, and you’re not helping anyone else climb, what’s the point on going for the easy win OP choice?

Like if there was something gained for winning I’d fully understand, people ranking up / helping other rank up for example

But it’s always 90% of the Psykers requesting to join a H40 party, are already H40 assignment themselves AND they run the classic Shriek inferno warp siphon brain burst

People who’s name include the letter A tend to do a lot of damage!

And I noticed another strange pattern, but I don’t have time to describe it in detail right now. I’ll do that a bit later this evening. In short, H40 on this site is supposedly several times larger than H1–H39 combined, but I need to double-check that

Well, I’ve reopened that thread again, and I just love the beginning a sensible thought that then turns into my favourite thing: “balance, damage, meta.” You do realise it’s laughable to talk about balance? What’s the point of balancing if people either choose weapons/builds based on what they like, or what’s good and comfortable? Only after that might they think about whether it’s meta or not. What’s the point of everyone waiting for a meta rebalance if all you need to change it is to buff the less popular options maybe not to the level of the DIVINE INFERNO STAFF, but at least close to it, or close to the usefulness of the Chorus? No, no, no you have to nerf player power.

You do realise that all your complaints and such are coming from Havoc, right? And strangely enough, from so-called “randoms” who apply to your party have you ever thought about that? A normal person’s logic: “Okay, I’ve seen Havoc 40 played through (the meta, we all know it), so it’s easier for me to pick something I KNOW WORKS and I’m 100% SURE IS USEFUL, something that will get me accepted and allow me to JUST PLAY.” That’s example one. Now, what if someone put together a build without looking at anyone, just clicking on what they liked, but it happens to be almost 100% meta and they actually enjoy it? What then, are they not allowed to play it? Or what if someone loves being a support in games just genuinely enjoys it and in this game they like fast, mobile classes? You know which build I’m talking about are they not allowed to play it?

Oh, and if you’re already level 40 and have a lot of hours in the game then play something else. Hmm, refer to the points above, but there are also a couple more “buts”. Again, you forget that a lot of players play in random groups. Personally, I pick from whoever applies to my lobby, and yes it’s usually meta. And do you know why? Because people generally don’t want to play with deliberately bad gear and such like I said before. I could go into more detail about what and why, but again, talking to a wall is fun, but pointless.

Characters are too strong, too much power. Are you even aware of what’s going on in Havoc and specifically with Havoc itself in terms of balance? Not players, but Havoc itself. What “endlessly strong players” are we talking about when Havoc has been nerfed and continues to be nerfed? You used to have broken spawns when they bumped the horror points up to 90 and that was awesome, the one thing that SHOULD NOT and DOES NOT NEED to be touched by the devs and they touched it. And a little later, because of the overwhelming majority of crying about Havoc what did they do? Oh, right they slightly reduced the amount of heavy armour, namely Crushers and Bulwarks. And why? Because Veteran grenades are too strong. But wait they got nerfed too, slightly. So then, why do both? Okay, grenades, but why touch the heavy armour? Do you even understand that it’s stupid to keep talking about the endless power of characters when they keep nerfing Havoc? Or is 2+2 too hard?

Let’s keep talking about the meta Psykers who kill everything in a nanosecond, “too strong” players but we completely ignore what actually matters.

What’s the point of “balance” when there’s no game mode you can play without getting exhausted?

Chaos Wastes everyone wanted? Dead mode you wouldn’t even poke it with a stick.
Mortis? Same.
Havoc? No rotation and the devs keep making it easier.
Auric? It just exists.

Stop talking about the meta. Don’t even dare. You have no right to talk about the meta, player power, or balance, when there are far more important problems in the game that you just like the devs couldn’t care less about.

The clear super easy obvious solution here is to double the damage of everything in the game and all enemy HP while leaving inferno untouched :+1: just remember that nerfs are never the answer.
