Isn’t Havoc supposed to be a very endgame mode that isn’t really intended for most players and was put in the game specifically for people who put hundreds or thousands of hours into the game?
Why should havoc be the only place people should be able to go to to face any sort of challenge in this game? Also, would it not be nice for the game to be challenging still, without resorting to just sending massive amount of overwhelming enemies?
That’s what my post was about. For most players, even the basic difficulty levels are challenging.
On this very forum, people who are bored even at H40 are discussing the meta and the need to nerf everything.
In my opinion, if you have more than 2,000 hours under your belt, you have no right to talk about the meta. After all, your 2,000 hours are the strongest meta there is.
Or better yet, go lie down in the grass and remember what the sun looks like.
The overwhelming majority of players who purposely take nonsense builds to H40 are bad at the game. I have literally never seen an anti-meta elitist wannabe clutching, on the opposite, they are getting hard carried in pretty much every game. On top of that, they often have obnoxious attitude and get mad whenever anyone asks to switch to a better build.
Here is an example of psyker who brought smite (so brave! so off-meta!) + random weapon loadout to H40. He got mad when I said we have no damage (I was shield ogryn) and HS said that this game will take a while. He kept whining on the mic and quit after dying 3 times.
TL;DR a lot of players are very insecure about themselves and it is their way to feel good about themselves to shame players who use the best builds for the unfair/poorly balance gamemode.
That doesn’t mean OP stuff should not be nerfed tho, but they use anti-meta whining as a personality defining trait.
I agree with you usually, but at the same time I’m one of those few players who plays Bone Saw/Chainaxe Hive Scum, Stealth + Power Sword Vet, Recon Vet, etc in Havoc… So despite wanting to agree, I feel attacked when I read some of the posts. None of the builds are the problem on their own, even if they are weaker than the best loadouts, it’s people and their attitude which creates the problems.
It’s just, definitely, the side that acts toxic the most in DT community spaces are those pretentious meta haters, people who look down on an average player for not being good enough to play Devil’s Claw and other stuff.
If this official forums were actually properly moderated like on other games, half the people here would be permanently banned here by now for all the “average player is so bad”, “skill issue” posts that they constantly make, because some can’t literary go 2 posts without mentioning something like that.
I never said that using off-meta weapons is a problem, I myself lately has completed a self-imposed challenge of completing H40 with all 3 marks of the Combat Shotgun. Bad players LARPing as a self-proclaimed “elite” is a problem.
This is exactly is what the thread is about. I just added that most of these crybabies I meet in the games are cosplaying an “elite player” and basically throwing a match because they don’t have enough skill to win with meta loadouts, let alone with anti-meta one.
This in particular is true, but not in a bad way. The truth that an average player stuggles even on Auric (otherwise it wouldn’t have so many quitters) and beating Havoc with EFL2 even with meta build is very hard for them. Claiming that picking Inferno staff or Taunt Ogryn is an instant 100% win for H40 with the worst modifiers possible is pure cringe and misinformation.
this is a topic that requires a small amount of empathy and “imagine it from his view” which most people unfortunately don’t do very well on. since OP already presented his angle i wont go into that one, but it’s a legitimate one. but consider the other angle:
imagine it from the perspective of someone who clears h40 fine and easily and wants to experiment with weapons. he will a lot of the time not get invited to games, he will potentially be blamed for losing games (OP is in fact doing both of these things!) and he will play almost every game with people using the same psyker flamer loadout or whatever. many of them will objectively be way worse players than him, but reject/blame him for not using the meta loadouts (which i am again not saying is unjustified, OP presented the angle here well). it’s frustrating and it’s easy to start pointing fingers
base issue is honestly just trash balance and design that leads to this social dynamic. this was always gonna happen if you put a rating system like this into a co-op game with dogsshit balance like darktide. fix the balance and the rest follows (wishful thinking at our current pace we’ve had the same issues for 2 years now)
The game has a couple of ways of dramatically reducing the difficulty already, and they work great.
The most obvious being to just play on Malice if all you’re after is a power fantasy. It’s right there, it works fine, and it’s more than sufficient for that purpose for the overwhelming majority of the Darktide playerbase.
Play what you want, dude. I consider broken meta a broken meta, but I won’t be bullying you personally for using it in-game. I do consider adjusting ones role to the current team composition as a smart, if not polite play.
Just keep in mind, that players can have particular setup in mind in their team, and rejection is in most cases not personal.
Also people have a right, not to accept someone to their team, if they fancy a game without stuff which is clearly broken. I like hitting enemies, and I simply might want to play with something which isn’t enjoyable with over-present / over-promoted range AoE spam.
You don’t understand. They bought the game. They bought the Krieg cosmetics twice. They deserve to play on the games hardest difficulty just like you! It’s their RIGHT.
What’s so weird about that? When you’re playing a game on its toughest challenging difficulty, most people are gonna pick the stronger loadouts. It’s like running mythic raids in WoW—nobody’s gonna spec randomly or wear mismatched gear unless they’re just messing around with friends. Honestly, the players who bother with the highest difficulty and actually unlock it are just more competitive by default.
fatshark is known to be slow at balancing its own game. and also there can be strong but valid things, that do not feel broken. Keyword here is “broken”. Because strong things that let you interact with the game and still have a challenge is fine, broken things deleting everything in matter of seconds or lame stuff to the point that is stripping away all the challenge for yourself and others is the problem.
