So there is a mod, and i was hosting another mod for that mod. Mod author didnt like that just out of being arrogant, it ended up with me not being able to run this mod anymore, he is doing my SteamID check and makes my game close before i even see the Keep like he owns it. So i cant play the mod, and maintain mine as following. Is that allowed and not against ToS? Why mods even have access to my SteamID?
If the mod author doesn’t want you to build anything on his work, he has every right to forbid you from doing so. Mod creators are not game developers, they do not sell their work, and you do not own their products. They make mods for free and share them with others out of the goodness of their hearts. So show some respect, behave politely, use words like please and thank you, and most mod authors will probably let you work on their mods. But don’t expect that if you act like Kerillian.
No, he doesnt own anything, its all V2 code. And its not his business what im doing with my game. I didnt ask for morals here. My question is: Is that allowed via ToS to do so? Preventing me to access the game. And why mods have access to SteamID at all? API should be limited.
Do you even have proof that’s what is happening ? Cause that’s sound very doubtful.
Game use SteamID to identify the player, might be how the mod access it (but again, does it ?, and if you’re a modder too, why not snoop around and see if you can modify his code)
Yes i have a proof.
Im not a modder, i was just hosting some others guy mod, i have just some lets say editing skills.
I know there might be a way to go around it, i just cant do it by myself at this point.
Again, im not after discussion, all i need is Fatshark answer on that.
You posted this on the Mod DISCUSSION forum homie, this is where you get discussion. Fatshark has official support channels you could be using instead.
Then why didn’t you share it? Everything about your story sounds fishy to me
Don’t know anything for sure, but I doubt this is against TOS. This game uses Steam services so I’m sure the player’s Steam ID is present in some way.
For example, I might want to make a mod that would grant super-admin abilities to only a specific list of hard-coded player IDs. That’s a reasonable thing I could see modders doing.
Forcing the game to close if the Steam ID matches a certain one is probably possible and not in violation of any TOS. Bummer for you, but if the mod author went out of their way to do this, then it makes me wonder what happened between you before that…
I started thread in technical support, and it was moved to mod discussion by staff member.
I dont see a point of sharing a proof here as it wont change anything, i just know that its what it is, because i have confirmation from mod author itself, and its not my guess.
The thing is that Steam Subscriber Agreement prohibits users from violating the privacy rights of others. Sharing personal identifiers like SteamID without consent could be considered a breach of these terms. Workshop rules state that submissions must not violate SSA and Online Conduct rules or other user-generated content guidelines.
Under data protection regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), personal data - including unique identifiers like SteamID’s - should not be processed or shared without individual’s consent. Incorporating such information into Workshop content without permission could lead to violations of these regulations.
He did that also to other person earlier. So we will be reporting this content right to Steam as well.
I guess i cant, as Fatshark asked me not to name and shame openly.
There is no issue with mods really. As i said i was told right away by the mod author that he did such. As well as if i start the game from a steam family shared account with same mod bundle everything works fine.
