go for it  its impressive

might need to throw a little light on the gaslighting part. all i tried to do was point out this store does not fit the description of fomo.

I mean do you find the shop causes you to buy things you normally wouldnt because it succeeds in inducing a sense of anxiety in you that you might miss out?

this store is the opposite it stops you buying what you actually want to.

but im gaslighting . w/e

Yeah, with Space marine 2 you can apply paintjobs and cosmetics to different classes, now the people of Saber are working in future updates with new maps and skins to buy in the store anytime you want.

The store fits the exact description of a FOMO store.

Thats exactly why its a FOMO store. You just described a FOMO store
Because once its gone, you cant buy it anymore. Thats what FOMO is friend!

They have different names.

FOMO is a term i think created by a DR Dan Herman he was studying purchasing behaviour trying to find a replacement for brand loyalty that was on the wane at the time

you can read about the pillars of FOMO in the author’s own words here.

tl;dr through use of scarcity , perceived social validation and time pressures a FOMO store enduces anxiety in the customer causing them to greatly over value the items being sold and purchase things they would not under normal circumstances bother with.

the cycle in the DT doesnt even meet the description of scarcity as laid down by the creator and the other aspects are absent.

If we dilute the meanings of FOMO enough to include DT’s store we also include every single shop in the world as every store does to some extent rotate its stock with no guarantee of a return.

DT’s store is just a urine (lol they censor p*ss) poor badly implemented one

Having digital items only available for a few weeks and then maybe never returning, is very much a false scarcity. How is it that you can’t see that?

Die on this hill if you want but it’s frankly bizarre.

Yet again, it does.

So close..! The cut fentanyl is still fentanyl, and very much still a health hazard!!

Anyways I did some reading and found that the coiner was one Patrick McGinnis, according to Wikipedia and this source: Social Theory at HBS: McGinnis' Two FOs - The Harbus

You may find it an interesting read. It’s also quite relevant to the DT store in more ways than one…

You are seriously arguing with him about this? he is discussing semantic since September 15th!!!
I would not care if this semantic debate was not driving the thread in an off-topic.

worse is I said it a long time ago…

put him on ignore for one month and put back this thread on track.

Yes I gave up replying in the thread some time ago but out of principle I refuse to let his “its not fomo” comment sit as the last comment in this thread.

A good argument was made that digital items don’t even have a stock, therefore they can’t run out, unless the servers are shut down or whatever. Therefore, rotating “stock” for digital items (cosmetics) in Darktide is made purely for “scarcity , perceived social validation and time pressures”, as the items are artificially put on timer with a high risk of either never returning or returning in quite some time.

Soo, comparing apples to :tangerine:!

I really believe (yes) that Fatshark listened to us with latest cosmetics packs. The ones with several helmets.
I wish they would put back also weapons packs (with simple colors).

But… FOMO should be removed. This is just annoying. I suppose they had to rely on this because of the prices they ask for the items.

Again, you just described the DT store:

Scarcity → Items that may or may not return

Perceived social validation → wearing rare items for clout that others cannot get anymore

time pressures → Items that may or may not return, get it now or maybe never

the other bundles should come back and the universal weapon skin ones. the 800 price pant/shirt bundles probably won’t retain that price but they should definitely come back with these helmet bundles to actually provide something to match with these helmets.

Reading how the definition perfectly describes the Darktide store and what it’s trying to accomplish, then reading the take that this is why Darktide cosmetics aren’t FOMO is bizarre. I wish people didn’t defend things like this. What do you gain other than worse treatment as a consumer? Fatshark isn’t going to reward you.

put both together and shout :”by the power of greyskull…”

at second thought scrap that

He thinks he will get rewarded though. Probably wants that “Community Hero” title that just requires being more servile and spineless than an Administratum clerk.

Funny thing. All these people swinging that around like its some kind of banner of achievement, yet the ones who started threads like The Book of Grudges get… nothing.

Things like this really highlight just how little FatShark actually wants honest feedback as opposed to sugar-coated praise.
