Havoc is the endgame mode, but there is a lot of complaining, specifically about just how it’s all set up.
So, this made me think that, instead of 40 tiers, bump it down to 5. Tier one is equal to Havoc 1, tier 2 is equal to Havoc 10, 3 to 20, 4 to 30, and 5 to 40. In each tier, players get 3-5 maps generated that refresh after awhile. They can pick any of their available missions and play that one. Repeatedly, if they want. Either way, they get more choice. Frankly, given the wide range of quality (or lack thereof) for modifiers, this feels absolutely necessary. Certain modifiers are decidedly unfun or sometimes worse. Darkness maps, for example, literally give me a headache. I kind of already think this game just HATES our ability to see and tries to punish it as much as possible, but that’s kind of an aside.
To progress in rank you have to do the “fill the bar” thing by getting wins like you had to do for unlocking difficulties in adventure maps that they recently added.
In other words, removal of the “three strikes” system, which no one likes due to how much the game can be affected by RNG or bugs. If FS absolutely insists, perhaps defeats can set back your progress to the next tier slightly, but not lower your tier.
This way, you could also go back and replay lower tiers of Havoc if you wanted to! I know sometimes I want to play Havoc but a 40 feels a bit much. Unless you demote yourself a bunch of times or someone else has their lower-level Havoc listed you can’t, say, go play around in a Havoc 20 for some light fun. This is especially relevant when the Maelstrom mission available is a really annoying or easy one.
well who would have thought that after several seasons of witnessing people, when giving the option, making the experience a disgusting chore for others, by needlessly upping the tediousness of getting into a game in the first place (when all you got to do is set yourself up with a like minded premade and carry each other at nausea)
opt for a solution that has them no say over the decisions of others.
it still has me wonder who thought it a good idea design wise to put so many restrictions (purely at the whim of randoms by the way) at the hands of the very people that are supposed to be tested for their skills?
if they cant cheat it right away, its in their nature to go the easiest way.
like no fathsark dev tried to cheat a test in school before?
something’s at stake, people get skittish…
and what we got down the line is the boring “bring meta or send nudes” mentality
wheres the challenge in that?
at least with randos every match is fresh.
sidenote: currently swinging my huge wang in conan exiles to get a bit of a darktide vacation, last thing that scratched that itch though was the solo mod of all things.
and not in a “skip it to the end” but kill whats there to kill as ogryn playing quake 40k
keeps me equally on my toes, gonna check how far i can push it without op loadout on a non-zippity class.
at least this carrot on the stick is dangling purely for me
That does sound pretty fun, it’s ridiculous that we have to jump through all the hoops of mods to just play solo. I know plenty of people have long wanted it, but I do not think they ever will see the value in spending the dev time on doing it. I used to do solos all the time, it was my main way to play, in VT2 (had intermittent internet at the time).
Overall, my whole stance is just playing what I enjoy. Often, the meta stuff is so brain-dead that I just can’t stand to play it. If something I like gets buffed to be meta I am fine using it.
This is my main problem with the DS, really. It’s okay if it was strong, but it should have the most complex moveset in the damn game, with crazy combos utilizing lights, heavies, and special attacks to get the most out of it. It’s a weapon for fencing, make it require skill! Instead it’s just spam the same attacks over and over. Somehow in one of their updates they even messed up the one I liked the most, the saber-type one, because it used to have a light overhead after the heavy overhead, but I think they removed that.
