Problem with low-poly meshes, including crashes

Issue Type (Required):

Other

Issue Description (Required):

Hi, I’m having issues with low-poly meshes taking over during the game after the first 1-2 missions, including crashes.

The issue first appeared after ca. 50 hours (currently 87h on record), where I loaded into a mission only to have the low poly models/meshes everywhere. Ever since then it kept reappearing at higher frequencies, with it now starting at the 2nd or 3rd mission of a session. About half the time it also leads to a crash, a report of which I unfortunately haven’t saved yet.

What I already tried:

  • Disabling the mesh streaming in the settings_common.ini
  • Restarting the game (usually works but only for a mission or two)
  • Changing graphics settings, including disabling/enabling DLSS
  • Verifying integrity of game files
  • Up to date Drivers

What I haven’t done yet is reinstalling the game, which I’d only like to do as a last resort due to internet download speeds.

As for my specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7500F
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 4060
  • 32GB RAM
  • Windows 11, 64bit

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

No, I don’t use mods

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

Sorry to hear this @Baby_Eagle

If you can provide a crash report or console log that would be helpful to check over:

Low texture quality for some players is something we’re aware of and investigating.

A clean reinstall of Darktide may help, and will ensure a clean slate for both your game files and settings as a baseline.

Step 1: Disable Steam Cloud Saving

  1. Navigate to your Steam library
  2. Right-click Darktide
  3. Select ‘Properties’
  4. On the ‘General’ tab, scroll down to ‘Steam Cloud’
  5. Disable ‘Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’

Step 2: Delete AppData
NOTE: By deleting your AppData, custom keybindings will be reset. You may wish to make a back-up of the directory in the event deleting your AppData does not work to resolve the issue.

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
  3. Navigate to: AppData\Roaming\Fatshark
  4. Delete the entire ‘Darktide’ directory

Once the steps above are complete, you can then proceed to reinstall Darktide as normal.

Hi there, thank you for the reply! I could find the Crash reports in the appdata directory, here is the latest one:

In the meantime I’ll bite the bullet and try a reinstall. Hope there’ll be a resolve soon, thank you for the work :folded_hands:

Hi @Baby_Eagle, sorry it would be the console log that’s needed, but no problem if you’ve already deleted data and are reinstalling. Please let me know how this goes, and if you run into any further crashes please provide a crash report (GUID string from game notification) or the console log from the session.

Oh, I see. Well, good thing I made a backup then, these are the last 3 console logs on record. Hope there’s something useful in there!

I’ll start a session after the reinstall now and update if there is something to share. Thank you again!

Thanks @Baby_Eagle

There appears to be some unusual errors referencing HUD and UI elements. This could indicate a corrupted installation or something amiss with your settings - so please let me know how the clean reinstall goes :crossed_fingers:

After a few days of playtime, I’ve got an unfortunate update on the situation, that being that the low poly meshes still occur.

Usually when it occurs, it’s only a few seconds until the right model/texture of a gun or something is loaded, which is not a bother to me. However, in today’s session, I ran into the whole level being low poly again :frowning: interestingly enough, after the first few minutes, the game ran normally again, but that only happens some of the time. In addition, the issue had persisted across instances (on the Mourningstar, during the mission loading screen in the Valkyrie and within the mission itself).

If it helps, here is today’s console log:

Hm okay, thank you for the information. I’ve updated the entry in our database regarding low quality textures for our developers to review.

I don’t have any other immediate solutions to try, but hopefully we’ll be able to identify any underlying issue and improve this in coming updates.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Alright, I guess I’ll have to stay patient and hope for the best in future updates. Won’t let that stop me from enjoying the game! Thank you very much for your help, wish you all the best~
