So I’m super fed up with getting lumped with people who just run off and want to speed run and don’t care if they stick with the group or not. I want to search for boxes for upgrade materials.
If people prefer to play like that then totally fine but a tick box preference would be a nice feature.
Speed player: toggle this if you want to speed run and have no interest in looting.
Looter: toggle this if you prefer to find loot on your journey.
Then the match maker could better pair you with like minded players. Obviously only if there are available slots in preference.
This simple mechanic would really boost the fun of the game imo.
Having 1 or 2 people constantly sprint ahead without looking back almost always means a doomed mission for me.
How do you solo? Isn’t match making automatic? Or you mean just leave the squad behind? Lol
And it’s not that I keep dying. I’m pretty good at dodging hounds and trappers, but it’s just much less fun when half the squad are sprinting through the map.
A ‘play style preference’ toggle would really help this. Obviously it would still pair you with whoever but if there is a space on a team with that preference then it’ll opt for that one first.
I know for me, main ‘issue’ and usually why speed is of the essence is in higher tier difficulties (Damnation/Auric), you HAVE to be constantly moving forward. The game will not wait for you, and ‘dily dallying’ around running down paths you haven’t gone already is liable to have you instantly cut off from the team as an ambush happens, or you take to long and another horde spawns and the same result occurs.
It’s the main reason mad recommended what he did, as if you do plan to run around, you gotta be quick about it. I normally only tend to do it either sparingly in the immediately available side paths when I have the melee weapon for it (Psyker with Dueling Sword, Vet with a high mobility revolver), or, I’ll do more thorough sweeps with SPECIFICALLY my Zealot, given the massive movement speed bonus they get and running around with Celerity giving another 10% sprint speed (while also only going down to 75% movement speed when out of stamina verses everyone else getting knocked down to 50%).
If you want to be a material demon, Zealot is kinda just the required go to to not get yourself caught out. Having the Totem along with it (Spiritual Chorus i think) really makes sure even if you do get caught away from your team you can go about getting back to them/give them a reason to turn around for you.
But if you’re a vet with a powersword and a dream? Yeah, unfortunately you’re just going to often have to not hit every single crevice of the map. Now, granted, this doesn’t mean you can’t ‘split up’ when you hit an area and quickly check a corridor your team isn’t immediately going down. But you gotta make sure you’re ‘in between waves’ when you do it, and make sure you don’t get to lost in the sauce and don’t re-join up when the next audio cue dictates another onslaught.
Getting all the loot is great, but finishing the mission is what jumps your winnings from 150-400 to 300-800, so it’s why many try and focus on finishing first, grab loot while winning.
Tbh i think it’s misconception a bit. There are some locations on maps that you probably want to cross as fast as you can, for example first open area before elevator on Refinery Delta. Unexpirienced players are always spend too much time there or start backtracking so game keep spawn and spawn enemies.
Or like on Comms-Plex there are stairs after second medicae, it can become a place of endless spawns if you will not cross it fast.
But on some locations you can roam, game will spawn specials while in big numbers but in human-centipede way, so it’s whatever to deal with. Like on Silo Cluster near the holographic statue if you go left there will be a lot of boxes and specials spawns there one by one jumping down from the wall.
Kind of a false misconception if I’m interpreting this thing correctly.
It’s often better to find good ground to hold until there are lulls in the action to push again. Even in Vt2 modded difficulties you had to do holds somewhere, and more often than not give up a ton of ground to survive.
I agree with the rest of the post. You aren’t going to loot much without a dagger, but you don’t need to build for it other than that.
Depending on the level of action you can do a lot of looting during combat as well.
I think my language was poor here for certain, wanted to stress the importance of actually progressing but yeah, more often than not what I meant to say but didn’t is ‘constantly move forward to next objective/defensible position’. Getting caught in in between areas usually doesn’t have the cover necessary to succeed, and some area’s have objectives that will just keep sending things at you until they are complete/pushed through, resulting in a lack of motion being heavily detrimental.
But there are ‘luls’ and the intention is to explore during them, just to make sure that you aren’t to far off when the ambush comes in, unless you’re confident in your ability to handle it. (and even then, a mutant/dog/trapper will make sure that confidence is misplaced).
I’m not sure a toggle wouldn’t have an adverse effect: populations are already fairly low, splitting them further might not work out well.
In my opinion: if loot had reasonable meaning then more people would collect it. I think most people cba with the crafting, or the imbalanced diamantine vs plasteel. It’s not worth hunting in corners on the off chance you find 50 plasteel.
I for one will open chests along the main route (actually sniffing out medkits), and I’ll zig zag to pick up loot in a corner, but I’m not going down a side path “just to see”. Enough RNG already !
public games with randoms is a mixed bag.
I play only pubg on Damnation and to me 90% of players are too fast and rush ahead sprinting, dodging like crazy.
I can adapt to some degree, but if i see people miles ahead and me not able to catch up, because of a more heavier loadout and not Knife, Pistol or alike, not much stamina or high stamina regen, not using movement skills and abilities makes me just leave the game or play with the failure in mind.
I dont care for people who dont care about me, simple life lesson.
Sorry maybe my previous comment wasn’t clear but I’m not suggestion splitting anyone up. If there was no spot available on a game favouring your preference then it’d simply match you with someone using current match making criteria.
It would literally just be a preference that helps matchmake like minded players with each other.
