trying to play feast of grimnir solo.

I don’t mind playing with people but so often the game with the best ping to me is still in the 300s. That is not an enjoyable experience. if I could just host my own event game this would not be a problem but I cant. The only solution is just wait for that persons game to end, or someone else to join which can take a real life hour.

why is this not an option in the first place?

There’s a whitelisted mod that allows you to do this. You’ll have to use their old menu but it’s a tradeoff i think that’s worth it. I’d also like to add that in settings there’s an option to lower the search range for matches, if you’re not essentially in NA or EU you’re essentially going to always have red ping. That’ just the nature of playing games made by western devs
