Greetings. Newer player here. I’ve been learning the game recently and have been using Reddit and YouTube to help me improve but I keep seeing people comment about playing “ethically”. What does this even mean? Like not killing the dogs or something because it’s morally wrong?? My name is WholesomeDoggo and even I know that’s seems like a recipe for a disaster. They’re kind of a big threat. Can someone shed some light on this and what it even means to “play ethically”???
There is the issue right there.
Just play the game, learn the mechanics and use your brain to play like a good team mate.
I got no idea what some guys on Reddit or some YTuber mean, when they say “play ethically”,
but it sounds like a stupid buzzword to me.
Don’t let other people tell you how to play.
Use common sense!
It’s a myth propagated by high hour players who got too good at the game for their own good, and get mad that PVE game where enemies have had the same 3 attacks for years doesn’t provide infinite challenge on the same maps and modifiers they’ve played for years. They think meta weapons which definitely are more effective take away from their fun, making the game too easy, despite most players not aiming to ruin the experience for others and just playing the game with the builds they’re comfortable with.
In reality of most other people, the only “ethical” way to play the game is to be a good teammate who supports weaker players on their team, goes for risky revives even if some players go down too many times, doesn’t speedrun solo, shares ammo etc.
Which can be done on any build, strict meta or super off-meta.
My gues is to dont be selfish moron to team.
it’s when you are only allowed to play as arbites or skitarii since the other classes break laws
I’m starting to feel even more confused. This game has too many unwritten rules 
For now play, learn and have fun.
Latter worry about ethical play.
The only ethics I can think of is to not shoot poxbursters/barrels/back of flamers next to your team.
In fact just give up on shooting bursters, everyone tunnel visions on those and won’t see the barrage of bullets, lasers, bolts and grenades flying at it.
NEVER. You lot are going to learn that you’re supposed to shoot specialists before they close the distance the hard way.
Treat others as you would want them to treat you.
Pretty much what applies in real life. Being humble in life gets you further by getting along with people better.
There is a perceived meta in the game, with some weapons and builds which are considered very unbalanced / overpowered. The “ethical” builds basically avoid those, whatever out of dislike for poor game balance, or / and need for a personal challenge. I wouldn’t concern yourself with those concepts as a new player, just learn and enjoy the game. Later on you can try to spice up the experience by playing “ethically”.
This approach, whatever you perceive it as elitists or not, opens up the game for you, as higher weapon and build choices increase the game replayability, as you have new things to enjoy.
Unless you are in certain game server regions, where apparently you will be bullied into playing the meta and only meta until the end of your days 
If you ever heard someone say ‘you didn’t really beat elden ring if you used summons’ it’s like that
No wrong way to play the game if you are having fun. 
Some people (me included) have too much time in this game and set limits for ourselves. It’s not a goal, it’s just a way that we still have fun with the game.

Please keep toxic elitist attitude out of this thread. I am a big fan of your videos but you are 0.00001% of skill so you might forget that some people are new. I am also a new player and I’m learning a lot from reading the posts on here
