With Failshark’s current track record would you pre-order and expect a complete day 1 release?
I personally am too worn out to put any money or time into another Failshark game that hasn’t been thoroughly vetted by 5+ years of consistent updates with proof to back up each one up. Failshark lies and deceives too much to trust anything the say without proof absolute proof.
While I generally don’t preorder games - I did however have 300+ hrs of fun before RNG and grind spoiled the game for me.
So if it had a cool 40k setting - maybe I’d buy it close to launch…
To answer OP as someone who never played a Tide game before Darktide and probably should have done some digging on the company before pre-ordering:
Nope. Never. Not happening. If Darktide 2 or Vermintide 3 or whatever comes out, it’s going to be an unmitigated disaster unless they turf out whoever is making the really boneheaded decisions before development even starts.
that is pretty much my experience as well. a friend of mine who is die hard wh40k fan suggested this game back in nov. we played together till jan and then bubble bursted.
he got bored because he did not have much time to grind anymore (magic 40…100h passed) and i kept going.
now he is stuck in d4 and i am still in dilemma if i should add d4 toxic crowd to my daily toxinc gaming routine
Not only FS, but whole game industry just wants quick money. Some act like they give a S, others not
Before I bought Darktide, I was looking at Vermintide 2 with increasing apetite (That was a dark time, when I didn’t have good group for WH 4ed.). I’ve decided that if the game will be decent enough I would buy V2 and maybe try to do a little digging on V1 as well.
But after those last 6,5 months and the whole RNG thing I will never buy another FS game in pre order. Also I’m not buying a single aquilla again.
Right now I’m burned out, playing (by playing I mean collecting materials) is a chore. I have 100 plasteel (hundred not hundred thousand), 46,5k Diamantine, +1100 hours of playing and shop camping and I’m still missing somewhere around 10-15 4th tier blessings AND still do not have “perfect” 550 Rating weapon with both Blessings I’d like to have. The closest one (Rating wise) is Hellbore 549 with 4th tier sustained fire (@#$%#%T^$@!) and 4th tier Onslaught (yay!).
It is possible to reach my goal of having all blessings but It will take more time, time I am more and more hesitant to give. And I haven’t even started on other classes…
7 days to die had just released new unstable alpha 21 and I think this will be more pleasing tide game for me. (You have zombies, survival, MEANINGFULL CRAFTING, mods for weapons and bloodmoon horde which is kinda like a “tide”).
Well, at least you don’t have to blame yourself too much. I should’ve known better than to be swayed by the crafting blog late November.
I’m quite happy with my decision to stop playing early January in order to not burn myself out. I burned out / totally lost interest twice in VT2.
The first time was at the 100 h mark or so, when I had unlocked all careers and done all challenges except the 50/100 games on champ+ on each career. I slugged through that for a while and it actually re-ignited my interest, playing around with different builds and weapons. After that it was straight on to discord, more challenging difficulties and more intense games (with the help of hyper-twitch).
The second time was for different reasons, way later, and after Fatshark had been mute for many many months and had totally wrecked the game balance. Probably a couple of months after Winds of Magic. That had less to do with the game and more to do with messy code, lack of communication and basically the game not providing a stable experience years after it’s release.
My strat for Darktide is to not touch it again until I can at least avoide spending absurd amounts of time managing my inventory after taking part in the current RNG fiesta. That shizz was bad enough in VT2 where I only started experiencing with builds once had enough red weapons to do so.
This game isn’t done. Functionally we’re beta testers, and we paid for the privlege. There’s zero chance that anything Fatshark cooks up will launch with everything they hoped it would.
Honestly. I have the game, i have been playing regularly since a couple weeks after launch. Very casual slow and steady player who mostly plays around on malice. Never been super into the perfect build or min maxing or whatever, i just play whats fun so the locks (trigger word i know ) have never been a huge issue for me. I think the game could improve but to me it’s not the steaming pile the incredibly vocal minority say it is.
That standing…i would absolutely not buy another tide game nor recommend this one because they force you to buy and play it on PC. I have a PC…i own and play it on PC but i…dont like gaming on my PC and never have. Release it on xbox and it will finally be more then a “one star” game
I want to see a new watchdog agency formed. Like, an independent body(could honestly just be a YouTuber) that will certify that a game is ready for purchase. I’ve been playing games for a while now(Atari 2600 forward) and watching this whole transformation is heartbreaking.
They will spend everything on hype an marketing and sell you an empty box if at the end of the outrage, they still made money. Thats all it is anymore, money. They dont care if its good, finished, a joke, a triumph… none of it matters. Just money. You can hate CDProjeckt Red over Cyberpunk all you want, if they can dry their tears with dollar bills, they dont care. So thats where we need to hit them if we want change.
No finished game, no money. I just think it’d be nice if we all had a place to look to get that green light. 4/5 big games ive been looking forward to have been complete disasters, im exhausted.
It isn’t about how big in scale you make the game. It is how you can make it feel that way for players. So they feel they are part of something bigger than themselves.
You don’t have to make it open world. Instead of hundreds of mourning star instances of around 8-10 players, imagine less but larger instances of mourning star but populated with a lot more players. Public chat already there great. Imagine permanent servers, so you can see old pals again. If server too populated then can join another, or transfer when slot freed up.
Lets add a bar, so we can buy a drink for a random, give them some dockets, play some silly mini games, interact to group up. How can we have fun interactions with players? Drinking games, if you drink too much it randomly reverses your mouse input as penalty and for seconds you’re falling on the floor. With each content update, add more fun interactions, mini games. Make people laugh and smile, give them a social hub. Lots of silly ideas can be had here.
You release the game with 10 missions, not 5 each with distinct environments, instead of re-using graphical assets so much we can’t tell missions apart. Don’t have to justify all mission environments looking the same just because the story is limited to one place. Releasing 1-2 maps per month, too fast, 1-2 maps per year too little. Every quarter, just about right.
Just finished a T5 mission with a great random party. I want to play with them again, vote for re-match make and keep the team together, for whoever chooses to stay on.
It is exciting just to imagine it. Come on FS, where is the excitement, possibilities and passion to create a masterpiece.
