seriously, what kind of “support” are you expecting?
lets say some long term player waited for you to catch up, what lesson would you have learned?
theres nothing to teach in the span of 30 minutes, even if someone was there in discord guiding your every step.
most people at the top got there through thousands of hours of training, understanding and perfecting the basics, patterns, map knowledge.
i even bet your military didnt see you as equally valuable fresh out of training compared to someone with 5 deployments and confirmed kills under his belt either
you start as the runt and earn your keep, never rely on anything from strangers… something to learn past 30+
more fighty less writy, besides im too busy keeping that scum from getting the killfeed all himself
It’s not about your personal time in the game, but size of your sample. It’s called statistics. Not every player I have run into when playing DT runs forward like a maniac and leaves people behind. I would say those people are minority. Base game difficulties allow for that kind of play if you are experienced enough, but you won’t really see in that high difficulties, unless someone is intentionally trolling to lose the game.
This is not Deep Rock Galactic, team play makes the game easier, but you can definitely survive and succeed by focusing on your own personal performance. Ironically team play comes more into the view at higher difficulties, because for the vast majority of players the intensity in high Havoc is way too much to handle. Team play, and specialised roles make the game easier there.
The base game difficulties have been watered down quite a bit, mainly due to player power creep, and serve as extended tutorial. Therefore your thoughts on the “player base” are nothing but your current state of mind after some bad experiences.
what happened to the “good ol times” when you only had a right to exist if you were skilled in the video game we were playing?
the right to a name was reserved for the top 10 at a lan party at best, the rest was “meat”
As others have said, the majority of people are re-leveling for the 4th or 5th time and are trying to speed run the process. A lot of people have asked for a way to completely bypass the 1-30 grind if you’ve already leveled to 30 multiple times but no dice.
My advice would be to stick with malice/heresy/damnation and practice in those difficulties. You’ll find a lot more new people in those difficulties rather than people trying to get as much EXP as possible. Within the next week most of these people that were speed running will be in Auric/Havoc, far away from anything you have to worry about, at least for now.
If you really wanted to guarantee a better experience, you could always ask on this forum or join the Darktide discord and see if there’s any new players that would like to play.
I don’t think this is healthy way to look at that either. DT isn’t even a competitive title, it’s a PvE game The issue I take with the @Irishomri117 is him coming over here to vent about his recent game experiences, and making wide sweeping comments about the “player base” like he has arrived at some sort of revelation. All based on his “impressive” 50+ hours personal sample. This is not how math works, but people clearly do.
It’s a multiplayer computer game, where you end up playing with various people, with different characters and different levels of ability. At the time when a new squishier class has been introduced, so people push their limits, and often end up paying for it.
Take a breath Mr Irish, maybe come back in few weeks. I would watch some good quality DT content for new players, and come back when every lobby isn’t full of beginner Skits trying to rush levels, so they can finally play the game at the level they usually play.
Yet again Fatshark, these situations would be less common if you offered a free level 30 boost and maybe weapon mastery boosts to player accounts at specific level. All you had to do is look up the account info. This is that easy.
it was a jest by comparing what “toxic” is today, when no one was batting an eye short of physical altercations in the 90s.
so was doom/quake and you better beat it blindfold on nightmare before even applying for said lan
arguably since the introduction of havoc levels it is in a certain way.
add the potential for clearing the whole map by oneself and you have elbows fitted with metal spikes shoving their way to the front.
as you said, one doesnt have to like it but it is the current balancing.
the game is absolutely powercrept to the high heavens, the pace of the game is faster now and will continue to get faster as the skill floor rises over time, you don’t introduce 3 demigod classes between buffing up the old classes without it having a knockon effect on the game
I hope the game experience gets better for you if you stick with Darktide.
Whenever I play I try to stick with the team, so I can watch after the slowest member of the team. Most Darktide players are just dopamine monkeys, they don’t enjoy the game unless they’re killing something every single minute of the match.
Maybe you can’t meet players who play like a team player and generous person who shares ammo, shares medicaes, calls out nades and saves people who lag behind or struggle against disablers. But remember, you can always be that kind of player YOURSELF, even if the rest are not.
The game is in a terrible state balance/design wise and gives little to no actual incentive to playing with a team, and it only gets worse the lower the difficulty. It sucks, but this game isn’t really a co-op game, it’s moreso designed around a single-player experience and you just so happen to have 1 singular mechanic that involves your team, in revives and rescues. You don’t even have friendly-fire mechanics in the game, at some point they turned those off completely so you can actually shoot through your team at least, as though they have really no presence whatsoever in your game.
What’s even more amazing to me is that they are well aware of this problem, because a post like this shows up every single time a dlc class comes out, and is easily up there as a complaint from newer players when there’s a big player push. One of many reasons that is commonly used to explain this behavior is that a lot of the players of new classes already have several level 30 classes or have been playing the same classes for a very long time. Yet they still don’t have an implementation to just auto-level your player character to 30. No effort whatsoever to this problem.
Actually, in an inverse to the issue, they put up the weakest ever possible difficulty unlocker where if you have like a 20% winrate you’ll eventually unlock auric difficulty, so you’re not even actually required to play good to get to that at some point. But it still means players that are way beyond the skill level of lower difficulties can’t even challenge themselves in damnation immediately. Even less incentive to be a team player for them!
I don’t think that’d totally solve this issue, but there just isn’t a lot of mechanics in the game that punish greedy and selfish players, and often times their behavior is actually more rewarding than not. The devs don’t really care to actually address how they could possibly punish this behavior in an interesting way. Instead they have greenlit every possible nuisance you could expect in a multiplayer game except for any form of retaliation you could make to the nuisance, i.e. friendly fire.
Just blow every player up with barrels and wake up demonhosts and leave the lobby.
I’m sure your amazing sample size of hours isn’t completely hindering your statistical viewpoint, i.e. mostly playing havoc games with havoc groups of havoc gamers who are more experienced and little to no experience of the actual early game, or what it’s like to be a new player in the early game, like a certain person who is 50 hours into the game and has come out with the lasting impression of “did I miss the whole point of this game, because all I feel like I am doing in this game is sprinting to keep up”
I’m sure you mean that his 50 hours into the game is not representative of the core game experience, to which I agree, but you gotta be kidding if you seriously think 50 hours into the game and having nothing but god-awful experiences with other players can be boiled down to a statistical error. This game is legitimately hostile to new players and the lack of brevity and huge emphasis on speed-clearing everything means no one really wants to spend the time to onboard the newbie to the gameplay experience they just want to smack things, get loot and levels, and get out.
Like, yeah, just go on discords and look for chill groups of people who play the game and they will show you the ropes and 90% of the time your gameplay experience is better, regardless of difficulty. 50 hours of solo gameplay is just completely miserable.
A lot of speed runners go forward and heavily rely on medstation, ammo to recover from mistakes or ammo spam to overcome obstacles. Now imagine if such was fixed allocation per player. i.e. Fixed refills per player, per stage in missions.
No easy health recovery, no easy ammo refill. Might be forced on team work a bit more.
Expeditions isn’t popular game mode but I liked the concept each person had to manage their own allocation, no easy medstation or ammo refills during mission until next stage.
I agree that speedrunning is a problem. The way we’re made to level up every character from scratch makes this pretty much inevitable. If you’re already used to the game’s hardest content, there’s just no fun playing on malice difficulty even if you’re level 1. If fatshark insists on making us start from level 1, at the very least we should get an xp multiplier so that people aren’t just bored out of their skull farming low difficulty missions.
The collectible stuff is another issue. This was just obviously a bad idea from Fatshark for exactly this reason.
That said, this struck me as pretty rude
Like I really can’t think of a game that that would fly in. You can’t just demand the whole rest of the lobby slow down so you can hunt for collectibles. You should have asked the lobby at the start if they wanted to look for them or for help looking for them.
