Necromancer: Army of the dead improvement

I feel like I’m the minority but I love the necromancer class. I remember from seeing the talent tree for the first time that I wanted to beeline to the army of the dead to really go down the necro playstyle of lots of weak minions.

Unfortunately… Army of the dead is by far the least desirable level 30 skill. Only getting the base skeletons for 20 seconds feels pretty bad even when you build into it.

Considering the power and utility of the other two talents, would it be two much to just make it 12 permanent skeletons?

Or possibly doing a hybrid of the old system and have it only cast 6 at a time but with an upped cap of 12.

If we’re worried about overpowering the overheat/vent mechanism maybe we can tweak the amount of overcharge vented per skele while using the talent.

Yup, weak talent. Several threads on this.

If it also came with reduced cooldown and a longer duration for the extra skeletons raised, then you might get more use out of it.

I’d say about 30% reduced cooldown, which would still mean I think about 77 seconds between casts without other cooldown bonuses. Then, make it so that the skeletons only decay 1 at a time every 20s. This way you can still get some use out of them, and work towards increasing their numbers before they all die off or get used to clear heat.

As it currently stands, in the campaign mode, you have to drink purple pots with +50% potion duration, just to get a few extra skeletons for 30 seconds. It’s a gimmick, and I’ve never seen it turn out to be useful at all.

Even in Chaos Wastes, getting this as a boon, I never managed to get a synergy going where I had Army of the Dead and enough cooldown to get 12 skeletons for more than a few seconds.
