Let's go gambling!

Ok, hear my tale of woe.

Trying to spend all my melk coins for 430 curios on hive scum. My melk bucks must be busted after 50k spent not a single 17% toughness above 410. To be honest I haven’t seen a 430 of any kind after quite a bit of playing.
What am I missing here besides melk barely sells curios and they are always low power. Most of the time he isn’teven selling curios. It’s now melktide. He is bathing in my coins and I can’t get more toughness.

I swear after the latest patch 17%/21% curio drop rate from milkboxes went significantly down.

What about not gambling at all, but simply buying a curio, consecrating and empowering it just like the weapons.

50k ?

make that around ten fold and I finally got my 2x 17%toughness and 21%health.

which is the way I wanna spec the class.

then again, now the melk bucks are collecting dust again :man_shrugging:

May you find some small solace here…

This is exactly what I use.
I wanted to use 3 x +17% toughness, but the +21% health is making things a lot more confortable.

I say it time and again, self sustainability.

always expect the worst of your fellow rejects to the point of active sabotage when it comes to waste resources a better player could use for a clutch.

by creating these resources by default in your loadout you’re far better prepared for these f-ups to the point of completely ignoring them and moving on with the mission.

today I got an upload of an event match, simply testing the shovel on ogryn again.

turned into a quitality match with the first 3 dudes opting out at the first encounter, not being able to either tag along on a safe path to avoid the daemon host, nor could 3! of them fend off the trash mobs they so defensively tried to fight in a corner.

instead of just running along.

so of 3/4 of the squad fails at a minor encounter based on wrong placement, im more than glad having chosen a holdable and sustainable position from where to move on.

having a good amount of health allows me to do so, toughness is regenerated anyways.

I don’t even bother trying to get perfect curious from melk (except for stamina curious), 1% doesn’t make much of a difference anyway. I do have quite a few perfect curious on the original classes unlocked through regular gameplay though.

they don’t alter much, true.

then again me being of the generation that had a “complete character” from the getgo it irks me a little to have my “doomguy” or “quaker” not at his fullest when starting a match.

this whole leveling stuff up is rather boring to me, let me test myself against the max already and stop wasting my time.

current doom I started at nightmare for example, not knowing sheet about maps etc and get along just fine.

having this 16% would bother me as much as not picking up the nailgun in the first map of quake on purpose

I know you aren’t running around with terrible curios. Especially since 410 and 430s have different values. (Even if the say the dame thing) I am trying to get 430 17 percent toughness to replace my 410 then upgrade them. The gambling is trying to get melk to give me the curios on the mystery roll for 250 melk bucks.

no i’m not :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: they’re all 430 (or 420 where i didn’t care enough).
however, it’s only because i scooped up every top rated curio from brunt over a long time, and bought random defensive curios from melk for his otherwise useless coins.
we still can’t buy whatever curios we want and empower them, so we have to resort to this gambling as the remnant of hadron’s brick factory.

I’m always run with 3 x 21% health since years ago. Not long after experimenting I found it was most useful, for the reasons you give. Especially as any amount of toughness can basically be 1 shot by any random source at any given time I swear.

That said I’ve recently changed one of them to a ‘3 stamina’ curio and having very good results in havoc as ogryn.

My current fav build is a branx mobility maxi. So I have power at 60 and the rest at 80, including mobility. This makes branx feel less restrictive but still has huge damage. The extra curio enhances it further

I think there’s a boost to curio drop rates for mission rewards. You could use that and farm missions to get better curios than Melk sells.

ironically, there’s a perk on can put on a curio to give a 20% chance of receiving a (random) curio instead of a weapon as mission reward. so you need a curio to get more curios. more ironically, i thought it was hot :poop: as a beginner, because we had only lottery crafting and i didn’t know better.

They keep coming in under 400, but I like what you cooking.

It’s effectively more gambling and I have been terribly unlucky with that as well.

It’s boggling that this remnant Gacha-gambling mechanism is still in the game, and telling that Fatshark has never addressed what value they see in it. They don’t seem to know themselves why they continue distributing gear in this manner or want to tell people what the plan was in the first place, but that goes for so many of the game’s ancillary systems.

I think it was because they did away with the loot boxes from V2. But the thing about that is that they also got rid of the crafting.

A massive part of that was the presentation and systems integration. Like having in-game actions (carrying tomes/grimoires) actively and demonstratably improving the loot you got at the end of a run. Removing that and rendering everything down to just buying things with currency meant you were inserting an abstracted layer removing the player from feeling any consequence or reward from their actions in-mission. The gambling was bad, but the overall itemisation system was also missing entire chunks like that.

I think all my 17%s come from Brunt. Melk never was that helpful in getting one. Not that it really matters though. As if those extra 3% toughness will close some gap in 99% of playerbase’s skills lol (that includes me). I stopped deliberately hunting perfect Curios long ago, just sometimes dump Melk currency into that slot machine when I’m having too much of it. 16% are abundant and they are more than enough.
