Issue Description:

Attempt to launch game from Steam, get error “Something went wrong in the Shader Cache BUilder process. Exit code = -1073741515”
Proceeds to show EAC Splashscreen and open launcher. Have verified graphic settings in launcher and when I hit “Play” it begins to attempt initializing the game. I get 3 repeated (by repeating I mean when I click ‘ok’ it closes the window and pops another one up with the same message) Errors "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

Things I have tried to fix myself

-Verified game files through Steam
-Gone through programs and ran repair on all C++ redistributables possible (2012, 2013, and 2015 for both x86 & x64)
-restarted computer multiple times between fixes
-Verified that latest GPU driver installed
-Verified that minimum spec requirements for game hasn’t changed
-Searched all of forum for “-1073741515” and found no other posts.

If you’d like this error to be reported in another fashion (since this thread is technically for code =1, just lemme know.

Steps to recreate:

  1. Launch Darktide from Steam library
  2. Press Play in launcher
  3. Window shows with Something went wrong in the Shader Cache Builder process. Exit Code = 1 text
  4. Click OK
  5. Splash img pops up with loading EasyAtiCheat that goes all the way through and disappears
  6. Game crashes

Well i remember they said they fixed it “internally” for the released edition. Maybe we should wait to see the official released game and then decide to refund or not.

I cannot find where the shader cache error has been fixed anywhere. Where did they say this?

Can you post a link please? I don’t see anything about it being fixed.

Upgraded from an i5-7600k and gtx 1070 to an i5-12400f and rx6600 did not change exit code = 1 crash. Definitely doesn’t seem to be hardware related.

Another update, another lack of information on progress on solving the issue (or information if the work on solving the issue has started at all) . Could we please ask on an update regarding status of work on this issue? I’m afraid if there won’t be any communication and fix of this crash soon, huge amount of players that can’t even start the game like me will be forced to refund the game en masse.

so what i can see if your Graphic card support Directx 12 but only feature lvl 11.0 you will get that Shader error code = 1 i don’t see anyone with Graphic card that support Directx 12 with FTL 12.1 in here.

Don’t spread false info, all NVIDIA gpus past the 600 series have supported ftl 12 on directx, 90% of these posts have at least 600 series or equal on amd side

Looks like the devs decided to lock out a sizeable portion of their fans in favor of a NVIDIA partnership. PCGames article

Kind of tone deaf to make a game for a GPU that isn’t even out yet right after a major pandemic that displaced millions of people around the world. I am not in a position to buy a new GPU, sadly.

@Dra_Malath does your GPU support raytracing? I’m asking because mine doesn’t and my game crashes after an internal check fails to see if I have raytracing support.

I didn’t see any errors related to ray tracing, but if I understand correctly, only RTX series cards have it, because that’s why they are RTX.
Since my card is GTX 1050 ti I think not.

Hmm, I don’t know then. I have a feeling the devs are being extra quiet because they don’t want to tell us that there is no fix without spending money to upgrade. If that’s the case, I’ll just pass on the game. It doesn’t look that good to justify spending a few hundred bucks on an upgrade. Times are kind of hard right now.
