KNOWN ISSUE: Crash on Launch - Disable Mods

With the new update, you may crash on launch if you use mods. Until mod owners are able to update their mods - please disable mods in the meantime if you are crashing on launch.

If want to grab from discord the DML and DMF patches.

Or I’ve attached

dml_patch.zip (3.6 KB)
dmf.zip (88.7 KB)

I have all mods disabled and checked the game is not patched to load mods, but i am crashing on launch, after the first client window and pressing play.

[Script Error]: scripts/foundation/utilities/testify.lua:37: attempt to index global ‘cjson’ (a nil value)

@Havelock we’ve seen another report of this. It’s related to the ‘lua_cjson_pluginw64_release.dll’ not being loaded correctly.

First thing to try is verifying integrity of game files:

  1. Right-click Darktide in your Steam library sidebar
  2. Select ‘Properties’
  3. Select the ‘Local Files’ tab
  4. Select the ‘Verify the Integrity of Game Files’ button
  5. When complete, close and reopen Steam

If that doesn’t work, please check Anti-Virus software and ensure that it isn’t quarantining any Darktide files - or this dll specifically. Restore any quarantined files, and adding Anti-Virus and Firewall exceptions for Darktide should hopefully help!

@Havelock just to add to this - another player resolved this crash by disabling Windows Smart App Control, just in case this is helpful to you also

That was it! Loaded fully in to the Mourningstar

Just to confirm for others reading this; the fix that worked was disabling Windows Smart App Control. Not the reverification of the files.

I just would like to add this here since I’m having issues with the game crashing the moment I go into a mission, regardless if I have mods enabled or disabled.

That’s working now, exept recoil fix mod. thanks buddy.

I have the same issue. Go without mods, but still it crashes anyways

Not using any mods and still crashing.

@Arhitect AMD driver version 26.6.2 isn’t playing nicely. Please can you try rolling back to driver version 26.6.1

Please let me know how this goes, thanks!

Rolling back worked thank you

Crashes on launch, at the character selection, or even a little after. I don’t have mods (didn’t even know you could?) and I have AMD driver earlier than suggested: 26.5.2

Blessed be this works

@stefanw1337 sorry to hear that. Curious, if you update to driver version 26.6.1 does the crash still occur?

I also recommend checking any Anti-Virus software, and ideally to add Anti-Virus and Firewall exceptions for Darktide. Please let me know how it goes, thanks!

My game is crashing (even with mods disabled completely) when I launch the game and get to character selection. It talks about needing to verify the files, and I do, but it doesn’t work. It’s weird because I played a few games before it started to crash. It only crashed after I purchased two curios and upgraded them.

I had a similiar issue with my Zealot but the game was crashing when I entered a mission with him. While struggling to pinpoint as to what’s causing the crashes with my Zealot I also did everything that was suggested to me in the link given after the crash. It ended up being the Autogun’s fasult and after I deleted it everything worked properly. Here it just crashes when I enter the character selection screen.

But, even if it’s the curios fault, I can’t really access my Skitarii and delete them, so I’m stumped as to what I can do now.

Hi @Hammer_hold sorry to hear you’re running into further data corruption crashes.

Unfortunately, the autogun suggestion was only a workaround to the issue at the time, but it seems the problem runs deeper. As the error message suggests, this indicates persistent data corruption - possibly failing hardware. We can only recommend to try installing Darktide on a different drive; or to re-check your drive, RAM and CPU.
