Hive Scum is extremely OP and it’s actually depressing having to play with this class if they have anything resembling a brain. Oh you wanna kill something in melee? Too bad the hive scum can zip around faster than you could even begin to dream of, while simultaneously doing more damage with melee than an Ogryn/Zealot combined - oh you wanna kill that big group of armor? Too bad their RPG just one shot 5 crushers/5 bulwarks. Oh you wanna have a chance at killing stuff? Too bad, everything dies in half a second and they never run out of ammo so its an endless cycle.
I have almost 2k hours in this game and never experienced the feeling of “I don’t kill stuff fast enough” until having to be paired with this P2W class. It’s actually baffling people think that a class like this should exist and somehow be part of the lore, LOL. At this point in this game, Hive Scum makes an Arbite look like a little child in comparison which is already hilarious considering how utterly overtuned Arbites are as well.
I have LITERALLY avoided purchasing both of these classes just out of sheer worry that I would completely ruin the game for others and myself by being so utterly overpowered that I can practically solo the game alone. Not to mention it completely takes away from the overall enjoyment.
Yeah it’s an absolute blast and fits my hyper-aggressive playstyle perfectly but the amount of BS you can get away with is ridiculous. I’m straight up running out of things to kill so I end up stealing kills from my teammates, which feels especially bad if they’re playing melee Psyker (gotta juice those waves).
I can cook with any class, but hive ganger can completely dominate on autopilot, while I need to have a little bit of brain on Zealot or melee Psyker. Definitely needs a nerf overall, though I think the crowbar should get a buff - its CC is fine but its single target mode does too little damage to justify how slow it is.
I think they fit the game thematically and lore-wise, at least, but this level of power is ridiculous. I still can’t believe Rampage got buffed.
It feels a bit like playing handmaiden in VT2 but you installed a mod that gives it the trollhammer torpedo and sienna dots
It’s a bit funny to me that the explanation for this absurd power is often “but he’s a glass cannon” when evasion+mobility is defense in this game and he has the best evasion and mobility. Like what’s the tradeoff, he gets to be more evasive to make up for how easily he kills most things? Unsure what the design intent was other than “people will probably not buy this so go balls to the walls”
They made super strong glass cannon class, assuming that its power will be balanced by its squishiness. The thing they have forgotten, is that everyone is a glass cannon on highest difficulties. No matter how much HP or damage reduction you have, you will get downed after trapper’s net, or overhead, or other 95% of death causes.
What is even funnier, that true survivability, dodges, are actually way better on scum, making it into tempered Gorilla glass cannon.
The Bazooka alone is one of the most broken things I have ever seen in this game. Imagine being able to one shot a group of 5-10 crushers at once, multiple times. Imagine being able to progress through a level destroying everything with your gun and never even having to worry about ammo - that is the hive scum. The first real P2W class in Darktide and people don’t even realize it lol
Arguably arbites is pretty P2W especially for low difficulties, the dog literally carries missions below aurics by just safeguarding from every special. Only histg damnation or so actually spawns more than a dog can kill. He also scales incredibly well into Havocs but I wouldn’t say it’s OP there, just very solid and maybe a little too tanky.
Hive scum is definitely a lot more blatant though. As I said I think they did it because of the negative outlash on the theme/design of it. They don’t think anyone would like it if it wasn’t OP (and honestly I can see their point, other than being numerically bloated, scum design is pretty boring)
Yeah the approach to the glass cannon used to mean just lower ability to generate toughness, and lower toughness/lower damage reduction from talents.
There are two forms of tanking philosophies. Soak/mitigation tanks (health and armor/dmg resistance), and avoidance tanks (dodge/parry etc.)
The best defense is actually not getting hit at all. Dodging and sliding. So while they advertise it as a glass cannon, they actually created a tank. A dodge-tank.
I’m now at the point I’m often just straight away quitting mission if I see any kind of AoE HS build, or krak veteran, when playing as melee-focused build. It’s straight away killjoys, stealing fun from you, not allowing to interact with content you are here for, constantly wiping out full blobs of elites when you are about to engage in fight with them, making you running around for no reason and feeling dumb. ESPECIALLY in the events missions, if I see a HS with rockets there it’s a no-brainer instant quit.
No that was the Arbites, they were first P2W. At release they facerolled through Havoc 40. Like, literally. Just stood there, took the enemy hits, and clubbered themselves to constant full thoughness. They did psyker-level dmg with double the tankiness of Ogryn.
It’s a different thing with them, almost non-existent skill-floor. Yea, I see the dog often killing more elites and specials than some other human players on the same team do lol. And that’s the dog alone, with certain builds and just average players’ skills Arbites are close to unkillable in base game, until everything goes ok (like, you are not required to clutch the run with everybody dead) - while killing everything with just spamming simple attack sequences.
At least Arbites didn’t destroy everything without the need to even acknowledge anything or anyone. Arbites are more like an extreme tank that can do good damage while hive scum is more of an extreme powerhouse that can destroy anything and everything as long as they maintain an aggressive playstyle and don’t get cornered.
I think that, actually, we have no class OP. All are at the same state.
Problems are builds.
BUT, I say it, there is things to nerf on all classes. And I am serious, all classes.
Scums need also their nerfs. I don’t even understand why they were buffed.
I agree that, on scum, needle pistol is extremely powerful. Uzis and double stub gun are also with desperado, shivs also.
Perso, I use the crowbar… I feel that this weapon is not as OP as the others.

A veteran with DS + boltgun + krak grenades and using VOC is as OP as is scums with right build.
This was from an hour long game where it was three people - one hive scum absolutely obliterated everything. I have never seen a score like this outside of a fire psyker.

The difference here is Fatshark is providing pay to win content solely with the intention of making the game more accessible AKA more enjoyable for people that don’t want to put in the time and effort it normally takes to learn (psyker, ogryn, zealot, veteran) and instead get access to these insane hybrid classes that can do everything.
You ever seen Naruto? Psyker/Ogryn/Veteran/Zealot are like Naruto. Hive Scum and Arbites are Naruto Shippuden - when that insane power creep came in and it went from thinking Haku was special to realizing he was a small, tiny drop in the pond. If you haven’t watched Naruto, sorry you won’t get this reference.
Yes outside… psyker never nerfed.
I have seen vet that have dealt incredible amount of damages etc.

Glass cannon archetype overall doesn’t make sense in a game like DT that tuned havily towards damage. Enemies or bosses don’t have phasing windows of invulnerability/high damage resistance, means you just need to kill things instantly so they can’t damage you.
There are no mechanics tanking trough is more efficient than rush trough or outdamage.
Facts, when I dodge using Shivs on Scum I feel like I’m jumping across multiple zipcodes. Bad situation? Drop the stimcrate bomb or BB then dodge out of the area!
