The amount of time between the “first-class customers” getting the patch(notes) and we poor suffering second class customers getting it is…negligible.
The “first-class customers” are doing work…they’re promoting the game, promoting the update, building hype…all of these are good things for FS, for the game, and for the players of the game.
I have always thought that releasing at most HALF of a complicated picture (i.e. balancing changes) way ahead of time is a bad move. The endless whinging we’ve seen (in the long ago past) because of people misreading, misunderstanding, etc. is just not worth it imo. Much better for people to get their hands on the complete package all at once.
So, I’m not the one who called us “Second Class,” neither was alsozora. I don’t even particularly mind that the notes aren’t out yet, since they won’t include Solo Mode anyway. I’m simply arguing that giving Content Creators stuff to work with to promote the game and publicly releasing the written notes in some form or another for players who don’t want to/like to engage with YT/Twitch for update information aren’t mutually exclusive. They could have done both and no one would be complaining.
I actually support Content Creators getting exclusive treatment in most cases as they can generate hype and interest much better than normal advertising. But there’s literally no reason for them to have not also released a post with a Patch Summary before the patch notes.
I didn’t mean to imply that you used the term “second class.” It’s just the perfect image for how I see this complaint…a complaint about not accepting the second-hand draft patch notes and therefore having to wait less than a week for some content about some content and feeling slighted.
Sorry if that came off as aggressive towards you; I hope you know that’s not my intent.
The amount of lag time aside (4 days, a week, whatever), releasing it to content creators with permission to put it out and releasing it “publicly” are the same in my mind. And I actually think it is a positive thing for fans to work as connective tissue around hobbies they enjoy. You see it everywhere. Like Gideon sharing the notes in the main thread.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t just post the patchnotes in an official channel if they’re clearly fine with releasing them to the public anyway. Just post that it’s subject to change too. Bizarre to defend this, initially I just heard about changes and there was no way to read them so I was just confused and didn’t know where people were getting it from.
I’m one of the few people on the forums so I saw a transcript/draft posted here but that’s still kind of insane. Putting stuff like this out officially builds hype, look at PoE they always have big old “upcoming stuff in the new league!” posts so people can start theorycrafting and they ALSO operate bigly on hype and youtube.
The main criticism I have of this current patch rollout is that class balance changes and weapon changes, QOL, etc. weren’t mentioned at all in official comms. If FS wants to keep specifics on hold until the patch launches, that’s fine. And I suppose it adds more incentive to tune into streamers or content creators around this time, but just mentioning at a vague level that there would be changes would have satisfied me.
By the same token, I do play a number of games where you don’t know a) when the patch is coming out, and b) any changes that are going to be coming literally until they release the patch. So I suppose I can live with this.
Yea, they’re selling the new mode hard. I think that makes sense as a media strategy…looks like they’re probably spending some money on bigger-name creators for this one. Balance & QoL isn’t going to draw in numbers like the biggest injection of content since launch (paraphrased). But those notes will be out for release no doubt.
Getting “official” notes is always better than trusting someone’s rushed video about the topic.
So ye I’m with OP here the earlier the better. I’ve already read 3 different things on how ogryns new dodge is supposed to work for instance and at this point i probably won’t know until patch day i guess.
so you can tell other people what to do/think/feel but god forbid anyone does the same to you
it must get so boring doing this with literally everything fatshark does poorly, minor or major. genuinely bizarre behaviour. what do you think is gonna happen if you dont? will fatshark shut down?
So glad you guys are having fun with this one! I wouldn’t edit it for the world!
If you want to talk about the actual topic (which I was doing in my original response and my follow-ups), you can read why I think the things I do above…maybe you can make a case for your different opinion. Or maybe we can just keep talking about me?
Maybe if you read the rest of the discussion, and didn’t just jump in to derail things yakking about me, you’d see that that wasn’t my only contribution!
