Hive Scum's weapons are missed opportunities

Most of the stub pistols blessings are pretty boring and none of them take advantage of their unique special attack, why not have some blessings that reward getting headshots with the special attack? For example:

  • special attack headshots gain increased crit chance

  • +attack speed for 5 seconds on special attack headshot

  • special headshots have a 10% chance of ricocheting into a nearby enemy’s head, this ricochet also has a 10% chance of ricocheting again

Crowbar should be able to hook open bulwark shields with its hook attacks and should have the stamina drain when dodging out of hook attacks removed and it would be perfect

Devil’s Claw isn’t a Hive Scum exclusive weapon, but should still have blessings for its unique mechanic. Things like attack speed for 3s on perfect parry or perfect parries have rending so you’re more incentivised to parry crusher overheads. These would be much more interesting than the boring blessings it already has.

I don’t really get why Fatshark introduces weapons with interesting, unique mechanics but doesnt add any blessings for them

Agreed.

Because they already have a roster of blessings that mostly works. But, it seems that there be a tendency that if there’s nothing that a certain effect cannot be based on with pre-existing code, then it doesn’t make an appearance. I don’t know what the reason for it is, but

  1. Crucian roulette already does, even if indirectly.
  2. I could see that being implemented - there is code for “on weakspot hit” effects.
  3. Whacky to an extent, but also code for it would not be present immediately.

It’s very odd that Needle pistols uses plenty of pre-existing blessings, some of which don’t even work properly, within the gun’s intended function:

  • Gloryhunter only procs on direct kills, so DoT kills don’t trigger it,
  • Speedload - ditto,

Why are these two appended to this weapon? Was it supposed to have higher direct damage at some point, and that didn’t make it to live, but the blessings weren’t adjusted to something more unique?

None of the weapons shared across different classes have had unique blessings that are accessible to one class only (even if class-specific features apply, like laspistols on Psyker). I don’t know why that is, but it’s either a limitation that they can’t surpass, or weapons shared across different classes were never supposed to have blessings that are class-unique, esp. since all classes have some class-specific weapons where class-identity stuff can be implemented.

Well, it could be, rather, because as you’d already shown, that isn’t the case.

I too don’t fully understand why that is the state of things, but it seems like all that creative effort is being allocated some place else and we are not seeing any of it in the weapon design department, and frankly, I’m not holding much hope in the “cryptic” class to change that, either.
