Hive Scum Pickpocket complaint

Do you know what the most balanced game ever was? The original Street Fighter, only two characters, and they were identical.

There have been a number of stealth/knife Zealots zipping through the map.

They run past everything and then drop aggro with stealth, screwing over the rest of the team who cannot move as quickly and cannot dump aggro.

Thank you so much kark head!

Now, my Helbore Veteran gets all of the groups that you pulled dumped on me. All of the specials and elites that you picked up, and we will not have any points capped because two-three of us are each kiting around 10-30 Carapace enemies, just trying to survive.

Then they have the gall to go to the door and start the ‘Defend the Door’ event, or worse, start extract while you are knee deep in heretics, all while we have a meager 400-500 TR collected, when if we had an actual not mentally challenged tesm, we’d have accumulated about 2.5k TR collected by now.

I don’t like to, but I’ve started leaving games and blocking these players when I notice this behavior early on.

I understand that we want to be efficient and complete Expeditions quickly in order to do the penances, but playing that way and screwing up for the rest of the team takes 2-3 times longer and very often leads to a team wipe.

Getting mad just thinking about it!!!

How can people be this bad in Auric??? :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

They can do that crap in Auric Maelstrom because there I can mostly solo carry (dependent on how my day is going), but I can’t do that in Expeditions where you have to hold points.

for the older among us:

to quote sulik from fallout 2 “they got stupid spirit”

CS 1.6 was pretty balanced too for a more “modern” game, but I’d put either Quake 3 Arena or Unreal Tournament 2004 up there.

A lot of the gold old 8-bits and Amiga games were anything, but balanced

Just good old arcade machine ports to NES that were originally built to extort you out of your weekly allowance

Dying in one hit when you get peppered from top, bottom, behind you and front (off-sceeen btw) was absolutely so “fun”!

One death, no continues and passwords.

You die once, you start over from the beginning of the game

Best Nes game:

Me and friends used to play Nintendo World Cup even in our late teens just because it was so fun.

absolutely but since he was rummaging through ancient stuff, I picked some of the earliest I could thing of without naming pong :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Gotta go for the GOAT of games and the GOAT (maybe), the legend himself:

well he’d have something to say in the likes of “only buffs” as well

some of the earliest mini bosses in age of conan was called proto ocha, this one here’s proto fraudster :squinting_face_with_tongue:

True, true!

Just remembered this game!

I got to play it on an arcade when me and my parents were at a restaurant for like 20 mins before my parents found it I was at that machine and told me no, it’s too violent :crying_cat:

The fun thing is that my mum doesn’t mind that my son plays violent games, but she was annoying as F when I was a kid regarding what games she allowed me to play :frowning:

The good old times of “violent games make your kids murdered IRL”, well that discussion is kinda back now isn’t it? :face_exhaling:

God I’m glad my parents didn’t give a sh*t, hel I remember my dad laughing his arse of while I was beating a hobo to a pulp in gta3…wholesome father son bonding time.

luckily apart from the real hardcore stuff (that were VHS grail items anyway, maneater, cannibal Holocaust, etc) I never had a “problem” since my parents without knowing taught me what’s called media competence early on.

what’s an actor, what’s special effects, how stunts are performed (and why stuntmen don’t get paid enough :squinting_face_with_tongue: ) etc.

only raised eyebrows back in the day was watching crying freeman in the living room cause soft porn like anime for those not knowing the topic and fist of the north star, oddly enough mom wasn’t a fan of raoh

only struggle back in the day was finding out where the old man kept his VHS stash and getting that 20kg SEG tape recorder into the kids room when the cats were away :joy:

remember watching rambo first blood in glorious pixelated resolution at a friend’s house when his single mom was away for groceries.

boy was she mad when we cheered stallone on getting that sherrif on the roof :bullseye:

today I’d say teach em young so they are prepared for all the tiktok filth that’s around and they somewhat filter the trash for what it is.

before watching john wick with the young-uns watch “wick is pain” and show why keanu reeves is awesome :+1:

was playing exactly 3 matches of street fighter with me.

first dad won, second he struggled, third was the last for a reason

proved to be worthy continuing the bloodline.

speaking of blood, showed him jax’ mk2 fatality, he merely meh’ed :squinting_face_with_tongue:

the birth of “therapeutic hoe bashing”

pay em

smack em

whack em

get your money back

Driving on the sidewalk in gta4 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

uhm…yeah…in….game… absolutely, I’d “never” do this in real life… pinky promise

I think the issue is that making ranged balanced and actually feasibly an exclusive playstyles is not reconcicable with actual tide gameplay AS IT EXISTS NOW. It’s fun to sometimes blast stuff that’s for sure, but when you have ranged-only playstyles multiple issues come out:

  1. there are no actual ranged mechanics other than point and click, compared to melee which needs you to block, dodge, judge cleave and stagger appropriately etc. To remedy this, there are ways like how other games someone else mentioned do it. For example in DRG you can shoot things in the ass, but it means you have to position a certain way. In Payday you have to shoot very small weakspots on the helmets of armored guys.
  2. the ranged options are all designed for hybrid classes at most, where they’re designed to be better-than-melee but limited, and are thus very strong compared to e.g. L4D guns, where you need to funnel enemies into chokes because the guns can’t deal with things otherwise.
  3. the fundamental game design assumes attrition if you just shoot without a care, specials wise, too. In other games you have a backup weapon for this. In Darktide this would mean a huge rebalance one way or other.

These reasons are why in my opinion, the hive scum ranged-only playstyle is extremely, EXTREMELY boring. Of course subjective but I played it like 4 times with different weapons to see “could this weapon be really strong with this?” and I basically stopped caring 3 minutes into the mission each time. Your gameplay loop with old pickpocket was literally just “stay away and unload your OP-by-design weapon 24/7”. In that sense i think the new pickpocket is still quite OP (it still allows a LOT of ammo econ), just slightly less boring by forcing a break in the action. This is on top of it being so OP due to the weapons being overtuned for it that it trivialized the existing hardest base game difficulty.

That said they COULD change all these things. New enemies with ranged mechanics COULD be added, or existing ones change (like shooting armor plates off a crusher or something). Hive Scum COULD have been limited to HS-only-weapons, or pickpocket could change weapons to the point they actually aren’t by design extra-strong tools anymore, which is what psyker staves do with varying degrees of success (lol). They COULD rebalance the special spawns and how dangerous they actually are to scale them to a now unlimited-ammo playing field.

I truly understand the angle that Fatshark could create this and it would be the better game, but it’s not the game we have right now and considering there hasn’t been a new thought-out mechanical change or new mechanics like this ever since the combat design lead left, I’m thinking it will never be that, so the best course of action was to nerf pickpocket and I’m happy they did it.

So I really think both you and the people arguing against what you’re saying are right. Your angle hinges more on Fatshark delivering substantial, thought out changes though, which most people at this point intuitively don’t consider possible anymore.

My parents are the best people in the world, but they are technologically inept, and they were especially so when I was growing up.

Instead of doing their own research, they read a lot about how dangerous games can be if children played grown up games, and so on.

It wasn’t that I wasn’t permitted to play games, but they wanted me to be outside and play with my friends (which I enjoyed doing a lot), and my parents were never interested in action movies or video games (as a whole) so they just didn’t understand why it was fun. :man_shrugging:

Mum is more laid-back now about media, but I can’t really blame them because it was the times before the internet, and knowledge wasn’t as readily available (as you all know).

Personally I probably allow my son to play his Switch 2 for too many hours in a row and I have to admit that I don’t know exactly what games he plays on his iPad (don’t care either to be honest).

All my sweetest child memories are from games like Hexen, Max Payne, Die by the Sword, Moonstone, Duke 3D, UT2004, Soldier of Fortune, Blood and etc

Or good old Carmageddon!!!

Road Rash was one of my faves too. The character portraits and the music was peak.

back in the day we had a mutual agreement: as long as my grades are ok its up to me how I schedule my spare time.

not everyone’s a people’s person and the usual hangouts with getting drunk or smoking weird stuff never appealed to me, health wise the right choice in hindsight.

so as long as mandatory obligations for later monetary forced time exchange (unless you win the lottery and don’t have to deal with mankind as a whole anymore) are met, id say “too much” is relativ.

argument to end all discussions for kid or father vs the missus :whachu prefer? me being at the bar or me being at the pc upstairs?

even matlock couldn’t argue this

Aaah back when games had balls.

saddam map was the best, shoot the weapons outta them guards hands so they surrender, pick your desert eagle

:”for the crime of unintelligible gibberish, I sentence you to death”

and shoot him in the nuts….

boy we laughed in tears :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Pong and chess are considered pretty balanced too.

I don’t think it’s you sucking, it’s intended that you should be put in a risky position when going for a melee on a non melee build

Psyker defenitely needs to be looked at yes

But if we exclude Inferno Staff, most of the other staffs already require some sort of constant management and it’s not “perma hold m1”

And if we exclude Recon, all other vet weapons that are allowed to have infinite ammo and fire non stop at least need good aim

I do agree reworks/changes would be good, but as I said at least there’s some >>nuance<< on these clases, Scum was just hold m1 in the general direction for infinite ammo and mega damage

Edit: I do disagree with your main point however, Desperado Uzis/Vraks IAG is still as good as ever
