100% deaf player here… I play with no sounds, This game is super good! but i’m having trouble against Pox, trapper, sniper etc… Will you please add warning signs big screen words in front of the gameplay screen? I get owned by them out of blue with no sounds. Thank you for your time reading this, hope this will be added before the full release.
I hope if they do implement this it’s disabled by default, and people who do need it can enable it. Being able to tell what special is approaching is something everyone able should learn instead of relying on text to do it for them.
But yeah, it does suck that deaf people won’t know if someone’s behind them or about to shoot them. It’s saved me a lot of HP.

Maybe start with using subtitles when the charracters says that there is something approching. Because we have audio cue from the ennemy but also almost everytime an audio reaction from someone on the team. If that one appear in subtitle like some of the banter I think it will greatly help deaf ppl. And if it’s not enought a more intrusive but toggleable one will be great !

Yes, every creepy special like Hound, Mutan, Flamer, Trapper, Bomber and Poxburster have a telltale audio cue to them (howl, rumbling, clik flamer primer and laughter, bomb bli blip and tic tac …) and some comment between team member on top off that. So I agree that not really fair for death ppl but I think FS just didn’t tacle all accessibility issue during beta, because it’s easy for able ppl to forget about disability. I hope they will add visual cue too for you to be able to enjoy the game more. They just have to word what we hear and put it on the middle of your screen or something and make it toggleable in setting.
I don’t know if FS do care atm, i think they are going to be busy for a while maybe they will add soon when they have time

Even L4D had subtle subtitle prompts for when specials spawned or hoards came.
Wouldn’t be the hardest to let Darktide have the same.

Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. It will have subtitles like “smoker coughs…”
Great QoL suggestion
There are player character VO lines call out specials/elites, I believe those are subtitled.
I do think accessibility is extremely important, and a proximity based subtitle system would be pretty neat. At a high level it might look simple but this would probably be a lot of work.

just make a huge pop up warning sign, not just subtitles, because theres so much distractions going on fighting and stuff hard to miss out the subtitle, Huge warning sign pop in front of screen would be great for deaf people to see and save people faster lol
Maybe the game could use a toggle radar out to 20m as we all have Auspex scanners on us at all times? That combined with subtitles would probably give more of an indication where things are coming from. Even a toggle for when a teammate is down the edge of your screen changes colour to show you somebody requires help in that direction. Left for Dead had Exclamation marks in triangles that would appear over the edge of the screen then move to the position of the downed teammate iirc. Hopefully you get a solution to your problem dude.
