I think this is happening since a year or so; some dogs jump without a clear cue. I’ll try to explain:
How it used to work, and works sometimes still:
Dog runs towards player. Dog goes “Arf” and stands still for half a second. Dog goes “Grrr” and jumps at the player.
How it is bugged, and happens a lot:
Dog runs towards player. Dog doesn’t slow down, goes “Grrr” and jumps at the player. Sometimes you only have a split second to react this way.
I have read they only do this when they have a clear path to the player and don’t need to turn, but this is not true. I’ve seen one running, suddenly turning 180 degrees and jumping without a pause. They can also run around you, then suddenly decide to jump with only the “Grrr” as cue.
For something this punishing, I think this is not okay.
yeah doggos are janky as fk, today had one fly above my buddy, clipping through his head to get me.
had mutts clip through the floor, tilted sideways with only the upper body and head sticking out, launching from that angle like a mole on meth.
why it aint so high on the hate list?
my guess
a)easily removable
b)not doing much damage
annoying for sure but not in the same ballpark as trappers netting around a corner or conga-bursters stacking like
why dogs are this bad as of late?
would put my bets on enemy numbers getting the ai out of whack for it aint made to deal with that many obstacles so its “whatever…lift-off”
The sound effects where very important to get right in my post.
I think you have a point, that other things are higher on the list, like trappers and pox bursters. Still, I hope they address this because it’s annoying
sadly I doubt currently, got plenty of replays where my karsolas connects visibly with the dog and even the wodden sound of blocking is played on my client.
yet the server dictates otherwise and after getting a brief hitreg with blood decals, dog is still humping me.
so it might run “correctly” on their end, hence the reluctance to act, but on clients its a different outcome somehow.
Oh yeah, I’ve had that happen a lot as well. Like, you see it connecting, the dog hangs in the air for a split second, and then the server decides to go “nope” and you get eaten.
It has been fixed and broken like over 5 times at this point. FS will fix dogs, and then 3 patches later they will stop working correctly again. It is infuriating, but like a lot of things in this game I have given up hope of them getting better.
At times you have f…all any time to react at all, because you hear it when its already in your face. I had multiple cases where I would swing at the enemies in the front of me and accidently hit a dog mid flight at me.
I thought it was me, because I played over Powerline adapters, but I recently switched to Ethernet cable, so the issue isn’t packet loss or latency. The game falls apart at high intensity, and I’m not convinced its the player factor here.
At very least hounds should have minimal range value from which they are allowed to pounce at players, but considering they are hard coded to move behind you and pounce at you from under your feet, that isn’t happening.
I always thought Pox Hounds latching at you without wind-up animation while charging is intented, but thanks to desynchs and other buggy mess it happens so damn instant without any time to react at all. They also stun you when flying past you which is so annoying is unreal.
The only broken part is that sometimes they sit and do a 720 before they jump, and the audio cues not playing sometimes too. They’re meant to sometimes instantly jump.
