A defining trait of autism is the tendency to nurture obsessive interests in very specific things, like hobbies on steroids. Someone with high functioning autism will always prioritize their own interests over the perceptions of others and what others might want or envy. In fact the concept of “missing out” on something that most would see as highly desirable doesn’t even enter the picture. FOMO is just flash in the pan nonsense, and you will almost never encounter an autist engaging in that sort of thing. They tend to stick to the fringes of culture with other outcasts.
That’s not a report, it’s a constitutional assembly. Its also not the newest one, theres an updated one for 2022.
This. So much this
Why is there so much more uproar over an in game store than them bricking the stability and decent performance the game had during this last beta, as well as the better state of balance? Yesterday I was putting out amazing visuals and consistent frames even mid combat today just the Morningstar is jank. Or getting hit for full damage because Veteran has over 200 toughness base and they made a comically amateur mistake with their most recent change. Enemy spawning is still a mess, I had a Daemonhost literally appear on me mid combat with a Crusher. And you only have the in game exchange for weapons still. But for some reason everyone is bothered by the cash store, if that’s anywhere near the top of your list of concerns for any other reason than it was effort that could have been spent on the game you’re messed in the head. You should be wanting to throw money at a stable, functioning, consistently skill expressing game.
Because some people feel like super heroes if they get a chance to use the word ‘disportionately’[sic] in a topic.
It’s why the joke is the headline “World To End Tomorrow: Women, Minorities Hardest Hit.”
Seriously, I’ll buy tons of cosmetics if it gets me more maps and more stability and more story. Cosmetics are freaking perfect for keeping devs fed and working on a game over time. There were never enough maps in Vermintide or Vermintide 2 and both have been kept supported for a long time. You don’t need to look good to play the game, but if you can afford to, it’s nice. It’s not like it’s pay to win.
fomo and fake currencies featuring the old hotdog vs buns trick, descriminte against all customers , its scummy predatory trash tier behaviour.
They had to please their Tencent overlords, so here we are.
I have autism and I’m far from oversocialized, yet the FOMO nonsense bothers me immensely.
So…no?
What? This isn’t even remotely true, I legitimately have no idea where you got this from. Social anxiety is incredibly common in people with autism, which would make zero sense if they didn’t care how others perceive them.
The “obsessive” hobbies thing is a single possible symptom, it’s not anywhere near defining. It also wouldn’t protect from fomo at all, someone who is that invested in a hobby would likely be more prone to worries about missing limited time offers.
Most of the rest of what you typed here is just offensive stereotyping, so I’m just going to assume you don’t really know much about the topic at all. People with autism aren’t robots, they still have all the same wants and worries that neurotypical people have.
I’m autistic myself, and I don’t find that description offensive one bit. In fact I take pride in it. So you’re wrong there.
Wrong
Wrong
I made sure to differentiate between an obsessive interest and a mere hobby by describing it as a hobby on steroids. Its more specific than just “a hobby”, and likely wont cover all aspects of what the hobby is said to cover, or even marketed as. just because some game developers put out an option for some arbitrary thing and slapped a “limited time offer” on it does not mean it will catch the interest of an autist who likes some parts of the game or other. In fact that sort of manipulation is exactly the kind of thing that autists are very good at noticing and resisting, and this is very easy for them to learn because of how angry it makes those who try to manipulate them. they become impotent and they cannot stand it.
dead wrong.
why and how does it bother you? i dont think its a good practice either, but thats me caring about the wellness of others despite me not being personally affected by it. those who are vulnerable to peer pressure and who care about status at their own expense are vulnerable to that practice.
Just saying I’m wrong really isn’t an argument lmao, would you like me to link you some studies on the comorbidity of asd and sad? I could give you the exact page in the dsm5 that specifies that “obsessive interests” aren’t a defining trait or even necessarily present at all, if you like?
I don’t think I should need to exactly explain why someone heavily invested in a hobby is more prone to spending money or caring about missing out on things than someone who only has a mild interest.
You having autism doesn’t change at all that referring to others with it as being outcasts that only exist on the fringes of society is offensive. Nor does it mean you have any generelisable experience with the disorder, you’re a sample size of one that is heavily biased for obvious reasons.
If you have any real evidence supporting that people with autism are immune to being worried about missing out on something or the opinions of others, please do post it. Preferably not in the form of an opinion piece.
go ahead and do your appeals to authority, just realize that at the end of the day every experiment and instance of data gathering ultimately comes down to personal experience, and also realize that the very nature of scientific research is one of constant change as theories and models attempt to both explain new data and predict it.
i already countered this. lazy attempt to farm more upvotes on your part without actually addressing my argument (probably because you cant because you yourself lack an indepth understanding of how autism works).
its a factual statement, and another defining trait of autism is to care more about the truth than about how addressing or discussing the truth will affect others perception of them. the only reason this “offensive!” verbal weapon is EVER applied in the context of autism is to use it as social leverage, something an autist who hasnt invested their autism into full on social manipulation will certainly not tend to do. so by trying to use that weapon on me you’re merely abusing the “problem” of autism for your own benefit, and against an autistic person no less. shameful!
go out and meet them yourself, or you can choose to learn from this discussion with me.
I said fringes of culture.
No it’s q forum he can post what he wants so long as it doesn’t break the rules. It’s the bullies like you that make forums so bad.
No it’s not, you can market somthing without being snide
Trying to sell someone little overpriced pieces of a game to somone who has already paid full price is disgusting. But it’s not illegal and I’m no sure it should be. We are supposed to nit buy the game if we don’t like it’s practices but when we all want amazing expirence that 80% of it will be (once patched) it’s hard for people to do to.
We should not buy cosmetics and complain that it is greedy to waste more time trying to make money off of already fully paying customers aswell as wasting development time that could be spent making somthing we would gladly buy such as well made dlc.
The autism thing is a huge stretch but I understand why you don’t want things like this in a game you love.
To anyone who buys these macro transactions, you are the problem.
lmao alright dude, clearly your completely unsupported claim that is directly disputed by multiple people with asd even just in this thread alone is the real truth.
Using relevant important texts or information isn’t an appeal to authority btw
This is pretty weak stuff man, even more so considering I also have asd.
You saying wrong is not a counter. Nor is making up hypothetical single cases specifically to win an argument and then pretending they are proof of how the relevant genpop might act.
Like I said though, it’s really clear you’re just talking without any real purpose or knowledge, so won’t keep dragging this out when it’s already clogged the thread up too much.
you’ll tell the autists from the ones pretending to be in order to bolster their positions by how they communicate, and if one really has been subdued to the point where they cannot be told apart from a neurotypical, then that is themusing a survival tactic made mandatory by living in a world where autists are the minority, and where neurotypicals bully everyone who isnt like them into conformity under the threat of social ostracization (which is still important to an autist because being exiled from society means being denied the means to live comfortably and without worrying about basic needs like food and water. In fact knowledge of that power is probably why you’ve been so emboldened as to use the tactics you’ve already been using against me even after ive called them out).
do you know what the purpose of peer review is? why scientific papers are published in journals for other scientists to review? its for other scientists to do everything they can to try and disprove or otherwise discredit the conclusions made by the paper being reviewed within the confines of intellectual honesty according to the data available at the time. yet im sure if you had actually linked the papers that i was waiting for you would have tried to discredit me merely on the grounds of attempting to argue with the results of those papers.
weakest response ever, certainly not characteristic of an autistic attention to detail and desire to uncover the truth.
not what i was referring to when i said i had already countered it, and if you were a high functioning autist you would have both caught that and adjusted your response before creating your lazy post.
subtlety reminiscent of nervous laughter.
I will often priortise models, over, heat, over bills, over food.
I am currently, ten thousand dollars in debt, an not social work will not help me, I had a social worker.
These strategies easily overstimulate/overwhelm neurodivergent people, they create an urgency that is overwhelming, and take contoller away from the consumer, and since autism is assoiated with sexual abuse, control is something we often strive for, we’re also often run down just by normal ife, meaning we’re more often run down and unable to resist predetory monetary practices…
Jesus christ, you can’t be serious?
