I was trying to upgrade/respec my talents but when I reach a certain node in the tree, the game just crashes entirely with this message:

Enter talent tree, respec and then spend your points. At some point in the tree, it crashes.

Firstly, are you using any mods? If so - please try disabling them.
Failing the above, or if it doesn’t apply, next please try a clean reinstallation of Darktide which involves deleting your AppData (please note custom settings e.g. loadouts, graphics, keybinds etc. will be reset):

I did a fresh install according to the guide, and this ended up happening while I was managing my inventory.
Also I have not been using any mods

The crashes are unique to your system, and after discussing with our developers, we suspect it may be due to outdated BIOS which can cause instability, or hardware failure as you have 13th Gen Intel CPU which may have felled victim to CPU degradation which is a known issue for 13th/14th Gen Intel CPU’s:
