depends on your definition of speedrunning, but yes when i take a thunderhammer into aurics i don’t have fun because people with ds or cb or shivs can just run ahead of me and kill everything at all times, and more games have that dynamic than not
i guess actual speedrunning not-killing-anything doesn’t happen that often (other than those two annoying germans) but that’s probably also not what he meant, cause that’d be annoying even if you did have a cb yourself

That’s because they gruted up the stagger threshold during a rework and never fixed it, it’s still a mess in the Lua (See PFP). The ripper used to be able to stagger a (then HP) crusher on poke pre stagger tweaks, 2 in fact, and burst them down. All they needed to do was give the poke a melee stagger threshold (as it already counts as a heavy for bleeds etc) and call it a day, meanwhile the older DS4 had a poke combo for how long?
As for knifey, I always felt the heavy dash movetech needed some kind of limit, like an ICD for too many uses that don’t connect with or aim at mobs within 15m or something.
Its more that the game was balanced around that and then they tossed it out without appreciating how things like trauma staff don’t care if you temporarily buff ogryns with 120 stagger resist instead of 60 while things like vet’s shovel weep salty tears.
Definitely gives creedance to the theory that the game went to kark when a lot of the original designers left. Big picture interactions like that got papered over to address player power without actually nerfing the problems, so goofy crap that relied on interacting with enemies for longer than ‘immediately killing them’ got even worse.
almost any weapon can outrun the enemies, not just ds and cbs
you obviously haven’t played in a while. unlike ds, combat blades got a big nerf lately they are below average without uncanny strike also what difficulty do you play on to see speedrunners ? haven’t seen any in auric for years even in havoc they are more common.
hive scum dodges are faster than any combat blade sprint btw even with tac axe, devil claw etc
The reduction of Crusher spawns made knife worth running again (even in H40) since it’s basically now “oops all ragers/maulers” or gunner spam. Mk4 can do punch->(optional heavy)->light->light and Mk3 can do PA->light spam (add Brittleness on push for even more fun) vs the odd Crusher for acceptable TTK.
Yeah if you have a build or something I can give it another try. It’s a weapon I wanted to like. But these days I have been going to PAUL, Pick, or club.
Combat Blade should have the mobility and stam of current Dueling Sword, and Dueling Sword should be brought down to have Devil Claw’s mobility.
Combat blade has always been OP, it just had the spotlight taken away by some even more egregious outliers. I hate that a normal knife is better at basically everything than the iconic thunder hammer.
