I encountered some provocation this morning. A player in the community who uses mouse macros was openly mocking others, using rude and inflammatory language. That’s what led to this post…
I really think Fatshark needs to take action against some mods—especially combat macros (like mouse macros) that allow players to attack every 0.2 seconds. Fatshark’s current mod policy is way too lenient. At the very least, they should have a dedicated modded server similar to what Vermintide has. Mods like these are basically cheating, and many of these players even act rudely toward others, claiming that using mods in a PvE game isn’t cheating and mocking other players for dealing less damage than they do.
Honestly, I don’t care whether you use cheat mods or not. But you shouldn’t mock other players who don’t use them while you’re using them yourself.
Sounds like bad players being bad (the cheaters, that is). There are some straight-up cheating mods, though I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone using them. At least not obviously.
Is it really a common enough problem to warrant FS focusing on that over the other issues? Serious question.
No. It’s a very difficult problem to solve, technically, requiring a lot of dev resources that could be put to other work, and if they do solve it, it would very likely dramatically limit the modding design space, in a number of ways that are directly detrimental.
All to solve the problem of people cheating themselves out of the experience.
It’s not a great problem to have, but it’s really not worth the price to solve, especially not when the people robbing themselves of fun can just realize that and stop doing it with trivial ease.
Some mods offer highly unbalanced features—like giving special enemies a high-visibility outline and radar indicator, or automatically locking onto enemy heads. These mods are hard to detect. If you just use them quietly on your own, I wouldn’t have any problem with it. But using these mods and then mocking players who don’t use them for performing worse in the game is something I really can’t accept.
I mean, it is a jerk move, but I feel like you can always find some a-holes in gaming. I don’t see many in DT, fortunately - I can count the number of bad experiences across all the 'tide games on one hand.

Sure, the mod policy needs a rework no argument there. But let’s not pretend mouse macros are mods; that’s a whole different problem. There’s a report system in the game, but only FatShark knows how it ACTUALLY works. Do they even act on reports? You see a macro spammer, send a report, and… radio silence. It’d be nice to at least get a confirmation that something was done about it.
Yeah and then they stopped sanctioning mods, and even then mods like Extended Weapon Customization and For The Drip seriously improve the fun I have, and no way in hell they’d be sanctioned.
People are always going to cheat no matter what. I’d rather be able to customize my game and pride myself on my own situational awareness rather than install yet another instance of Easy Anticheat shitware.
There’s a whole gray industry for getting around anti-cheat software. Even if FS implemented some kind, it could just mean the cheaters would just learn to circumvent it and the cheat mods themselves would become commodified, incentivizing making them.
It’s happened before, and it would certainly happen again.
I do think that some mods should be a no-go, but as others said, there’s really no good course for taking action against any of it outside of taking a whizz in the bucket of everyone that uses mods, and ultimately just making the game worse for a whole lot of folks. Like seriously, guaranteed weapon swap/ability activation should just be a basegame thing, or QoL features like Warp Unbound Timer, Hybrid Sprint, or just simple HUD customization.
I get the frustration that people can have with it, but people being toxic over not using certain mods or what else have you is an edge case scenario at worst, and 99% of the time, you don’t even know (or care) that people are using mods, and it’s just best practice at that point to just block the person being an arse and move on.
Player behaviour I am not sure would change much truthfully. People who are willing to be aggressive to people are going to do it with or without mods.
I do think some mods should become base game, QoL toggle stuff.
Other stuff is like cheating and should be disallowed.
But like others have said policing it would require a lot of resources and time I doubt they’re going to use.
And sometimes there’s grey area. Like, the radar mod I agree is pretty much cheating. But I used that thing on expeditions to grab as much tech remnants and salvage to blow through those penances as fast I could. Then I removed the mod. I’d like to think I was mostly helping other players by doing that.
For Vermintide 2 the devs were sanctioning mods at one point. MAYBE they could have trusted community members vote and vet mods to be sanctioned or something.
putting arguments about mods aside, for what its worth i think solving 0.2s attack macros would be abundantly easy, just enforce a minimum delay between attacks that not even quickswapping weapons can circumvent. fatshark just gives THAT little fuccks about it
They did that before with the electro staff. I heard they had added code to the client to track how often players performed QQ swaps faster than a certain speed so I assume it is only a matter of time.
Macros are explicitly allowed, but FS does try (rarely) to patch out ones that are too egregious.
The MPS has some sort of mechanic to prevent players from spamming L1->L2->cancel too fast. Too bad they didn’t apply it to the T-Blades as I’ve seen stupid fast L1->cancel macro spam on it.
Ugh, it takes a special kind of player to use exploits and cheats in a multiplayer then brag about their performance.
Did I say player? I meant loser.
Gonna repeat myself and say if someone like this mouths off, give 'em a taste of their own medicine, you may find the rest of the time will chime in to deflate their fragile little gamer egos.
I’ve seen some pathetic ones like for Mk3 combat knife (already one foot in the grave not using Mk6 with its 3m push stab but I digress) they’d perfectly spit L3 out of whatever max attack speed spam they were in for heavies. I haven’t used that in so long I couldn’t tell you the combo routes. Anything to avoid interacting with the game, like I genuinely don’t even get why some players hang around cheating as flagrantly as they do. What accomplishment is that? Is there any fun having an exact count of dangerous enemies before a fight begins, and the locations of dissblers pre-tagged? And then there’s the gross visuals of danger zone and other ones that just turn it into some Final Fantasy MMO. All of it is garbage, but the ship sailed forever ago and the content that is coming is balanced only for the quarantine mode filled with disingenuous cheaters refusing to disable cheats. The future is blight.
What changung rules do if people make cheat mods reegardles of current ones?
Its simple; nothing and only thing which could make an impact if devs actuall do something, not going to nexus mods and ask for removal but devs acually patch it so it became harder to make more/new such a “mods”.
As it’s been suggested more than once, they can change the rules, warn the cheat mod authors to stow it this time around, break existing mod compatibility and that would reduce cheats and other offender by 90%.
But because these little cheat crutch users are fragile little baby-ego snowflakes they might brigade steam with negative reviews, and I think FS is wary of going down that road again.
It’s always the antisocial types holding everyone hostage, this applies to IRL too OFC, they’re why we can’t have nice things.
