Bad Italian translation

“Against the grain” is translated “Contropelo” in Italian but I think the right translation is “Contro il buon senso”. Can you check and update?

It’s correct. It’s an untraslatable pun. Grain is of course the term for wheat but “Against the Grain” is a shaving expression which means “Contropelo” . Yes, it’s also “contro il buon senso” but you have to choose and a correct translation is impossible.

E’ giusta la traduzione. E’ un gioco di parole intraducibile fra il grano frumento e il pelo. “Against the grain” è un’espressione della rasatura che indica appunto tagliare la barba contro il verso del pelo. C’è anche “contro il buon senso” e va bene, ma devi fare una scelta e credo che Contropelo sia accettabile.
Al limite “Sine grano… salis”
