Are players allowed to set up their own modded servers?

i also hope this is the conclusion they come to, but corporate greed is a pretty strong rationale killer as can be seen elsewhere

the easy win would be incorporating it into the launcher or something. some community member is doing the actual legwork required to make a modded realm happen, just let him do it and gain goodwill from not kicking him in the shins for doing it

Like a modded realm option? On the launcher?

Revolutionary idea but not possible sorry

Who are you working for, Microsoft? ActiBlizzard??

Killing this mod would prove that Fatshark acts with active maliciousness. People find a way to bypass the missions board and awful havoc rotations after so many years and it might die.

Choose your next actions (or lack thereof) wisely, Fatshark.

It’s the Vermintide 2 deed bug all over again except I firmly believe the current Fatshark would keep it dead instead of listening to people who like playing their games.

Baha, don’t panic too much ya’ll. We’re just reviewing it to make sure it’s safe more than anything. e.g. one of our devs noted a DLL in there, which can make it easier to do malicious things.

It’s my understanding that if it doesn’t touch the live backend at all, and isn’t bypassing DLC purchases, then there shouldn’t be any issues.

It might seem funny and like an overreaction to you, but the fact that people think about Fatshark this way speaks volumes.

I meant no offense, nor to trivialize the discussion here! Sorry if I came off that way

My first comment was only to acknowledge we were aware of the mod, and I didn’t expect to spark any major concerns off the back of it.

The team is quite open to mods, we just need to ensure things don’t break ToS and are safe for the community

There is also a legal risk involved—essentially, players are setting up private servers. If legal action is actually taken, the consequences could be severe.

I’m just asking—what if some players start setting up modded servers and many people start playing on them? What if these players accept donations from other players? This mod might very well have crossed the line in many ways. These are questions that must be asked.

Bro, you need to read my title again—this is no longer just a cheat mod. This involves setting up private servers, which changes the nature of the issue significantly. In the worst case, running private servers could even lead to legal prosecution.

If its concern you this much there is one solution for that; devs should put in the game as a feature.

I read your post and immediately clocked it as someone who asked chat gpt “can private servers get you in trouble” And now you’re repeating

Over and over and over. You don’t even understand the mod, because your AI thinks it’s like a private server for WoW.

Modders already accept donation and I haven’t heard of any of them being taken out by the fatshark killsquad yet… but maybe they’re just that good

You could bundle up the dedicated server stuff and release it so we could host it officially ourselves

I know it won’t happen, but I’d happily run an instance for my group and maybe an extra instance or 2 for my region.

Unless you bypass fatshark systems, like login or dlc, EU law typically protects interoperability. They could of course stop it in other ways, but very likely not by legal prosecution

fs did not punish those who wrote the verm mod to boot without connecting at all to fs servers.

oh god players might get a chance to play the game the way they want to with friends, we CAN NOT let this happen, this will 100% entirely ruin the game and kill it and my family and pets, we HAVE to do something about this asap

i would love that, the most fun i had playing any game with private servers was on the private servers. can call it piracy ofc but i paid for the game, i feel no moral qualms

Rats are more a Vermintide thing, brother.
