AMD Driver timeout during missions DXGI_DEVICE_HUNG

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - During Play

Issue Description (Required):

Since the last update, the game freezes and crashes eventually during missions with the following error message:

GUID: 7c2cbc87-e263-4453-adbd-4c206e7c058f
Log File:
Info Type:

[Engine Error]: HRESULT: 0x887a0005 = DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED: GetDeviceRemovedReason() = DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG, assert: ``

At D:\a\d\eng\darktide\release\2026_08_11_Patch1.13.x\s\runtime\d3d12_render_device\d3d12_debug.cpp:1634 in function stingray::aftermath::d3d_assert

I tried turning off all FSR upscaling and frame generation in launcher settings, since I saw that it also causes crashes to some people since the last update, but the game still keeps crashing in-mission.
Tried game file verification as well.

The game ran completely stabe for me before the recent update, never had driver timeouts or any other kinds of crashes even during longer gaming sessions.

I’m using the latest 26.9.2 AMD drivers. No UV/OC. Other games run stable without crashing as well. I’m only experiencing this issue in Darktide at the moment, since the last update.

I can confirm having the same crashing issue since the last update.

Like the OP, I’m using the latest 26.9.2 AMD drivers.

Having the same issue with the same error code since the latest update. I have followed all the trouble shooting steps on the GPU issues page with no resolution to the crashes. It happens only when in mission for me, I can spend as much time as possible on the Mourningstar/psykanium as I want without issues.

Just wanted to add that I’m having the same issue on the same driver. It happens 100% of the time coming out of the 2nd lift in the spillway mission and crashes again within a minute after trying to rejoin.

Thanks for reporting all, I’ve let one of our Engine Developers know. Is anybody willing to try rolling back to an older driver version to see if that alleviates the issue?

I did. Game falls into infinite loading on boot with older, v26.3.1 driver.

Hey there, I have tried 26.8.1 and after a little longer than usual got the same error. I was able to finish 3 missions, where as with 26.9.2 it would happen during my 1st run usually. It has previously happened on 26.9.1 and 26.9.2.

Thanks all, it looks like you’re all using the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

It happens 100% of the time coming out of the 2nd lift in the spillway mission and crashes again within a minute after trying to rejoin.

Is this the case for anybody else, or does it occur at random too?

For me the crashes seemed semi random, but usally they happened during larger enemy waves. Both the new and older maps were crashing for me every few minutes after joining/rejoining the mission. Turning off FSR, ray tracing, frame gen, etc seemed to make no difference to the stability. Frametime is stable otherwise, no stuttering, just an abrupt freeze followed by brief black screen and crash to desktop with driver timeout and driver restart. I only tried 26.9.2, I would prefer not to roll back at this time, but it seems other people in this thread are having the same issue with older drivers as well

Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Could the other posters here confirm that they’ve also disabled FSR, please?

7900XTX user here: timeouts started occurring with 26.8.1. I updated to 26.9.2 yesterday.

It only started 2 days ago. I have completed the Spillway mission on 2 characters. Also completed the 7 runs to complete the event. Then 2 days ago I started having these issues. I crash in other missions as well, but a guaranteed, repeatable crash is just outside the 2nd elevator in Spillway.

HI, made a forum account only to report this crash,

I have the same issue, I have a 5800x3D with an MSI 7900 XTX, and I also crash exactly there, the strange thing is I also have another AMD build with a 7800 X3d and a 9070XT that runs smooth as butter with no crashes with the latest driver

On 26.9.2, Frame gen off and FSR off did not make a difference

Hello again, turning off FSR in game launcher seems to have stopped my crashing issues.

I am on Windows 11, Ryzen 5 9600X, 7900 XTX and 26.8.1 drivers. The game runs much worse due to no FSR but it does not crash. I have successfully completed 9 games without the crash occurring.

Seems there’s mixed success with disabling FSR, but the Spillway-second-elevator crash appears to be a common theme, so we’re starting there on a 7000 series card and seeing where it leads us.

on driver version 26.8.1 I am able to complete the spillway mission with no crashes even with FSR and frame gen on, On 26.9.2, Frame gen on or off and FSR on or off did not make any difference and the game crashes regardless

completely unrelated - there is also a weird texture problem with high graphic settings pre-set, which causes LOD texture pop in, this is completely solved with medium textures, and makes the game look better on medium settings than high

p.s. I have also applied Vizra’s AMD fixes in the top rated steam guide

another one here on a 7800 getting the same random timeouts im that frustrated i made an account made my crash report for one of many here

Hello again, another weirdness to report. I’m on 26.8.1 drivers and if I disable FSR in the launcher and then enable it once in game i get no crashes. I just played 6 games without any issues. So it might be the launcher as suggested by a dev in the main AMD 7000 series post.

As I said above, the Timeouts started when I was still using 26.8.1. After trying every fix to get 26.9.2 working, I gave up and rolled back to 26.6.2. The game ran, but it was terrible. I worked my way back up to 26.8.1, and now it runs super smoothly with FSR 4.1 and Frame Gen on. I have completed Spillway many times, and haven’t had any timeouts after playing a whole bunch of other missions. So odd, but it just works at the moment lol. I’m not going to attempt re-using 26.9.2

System specs:

AMD 5900X

AMD 7900XTX

32GB 3600Mhz RAM

Current working driver 26.8.1
