Alert players about critical updates that require a restart!

When you make updates that require players to restart,
otherwise, they won’t see anybody online with a different game version,
display a notification, a modal window, or something.

It is especially frustrating for people who play through quick play.

Is it really not that obvious to notify your players of such things?

Instead of giving them the frustration of not being able to play with anybody,
not knowing what is wrong, and cursing Fatshark for a crappy network, etc…

To be safe, update any time it is available.

Do you have slow internet and are hesitant to update due to it taking a long time?

How do you want them to notify you, exactly? They post the patch notes here, and Steam will tell you if there is an update, it’s kinda hard to miss.Aare you just leaving the game running 24/7 or something?

I am pretty sure the guy has an issue with an update that drops during the middle of the day while he is playing. the EAC update dropped yesterday at 15:20. If he’s playing and the game is letting him play even though there’s an update available, he will not notice until he actually closes the game, which will be after his play session.

Steam mutes such notifications and alerts by default and I am not even 100% positive there is an option to make steam alert to game updates while playing - I’d assume there is though.

The game doesn’t let you join onto players directly if there’s a version missmatch. That’s the only way the game would notify you directly of this.

If you’re QPing, the game will not attempt to let you join on people you can’t join onto AFAIK. Might be BS. If you’re hosting QP, there is absolutely no way you’d ever know.

There was actually an update message in the game I think 1 hour after the update itself dropped regarding the EAC update - I am assuming that message would be visible even if you haven’t actually updated yet.

I am not a fan of the idea of the game not letting you finish your game while there is an update waiting etc, if it were to kick you off the game directly due to version missmatch.

Even if they don’t take this feedback into account and nothing happens, you can either try joining through lobby browser or checking lobby browser whether or not there are games available if there are no players to play with, or just checking on steam.

I sure hope they would put a message but op says there was no message. I understand their frustration if thats the case.

@FatsharkJulia Does Vermintide 2 warn of an update in-game?

I guess my gripe is, if someone knows there is an update but decides not to install then they cannot expect to continue playing multiplayer.

@FatsharkLev will know!

@MunKy there isn’t a dedicated/automatic update message, but we can put out a message via the in-game news ticker, which is the message shown on loading screens for important things - in this case alerting to the EAC update and sanctioned mods + Versus QP temporarily not working.

I put the ticker live at the same time as the update dropped, though it can sometimes have a slight delay, which I think is what must’ve happened here :frowning:

It is also possible to go a step further and have a news ticker across the top of the screen while in the Keep/levels etc. but this is quite intrusive and we don’t like using this unless it’s critical.

Yes, that’s more detailed explanation of my point. Thank you!

Would be nice to just have one time notification dialog in The Keep, with just one OK button to close the dialog, that will explain that you can not join other games and will not see 'em with version mismatch, but can continue to play with your current party, and advise to update and restart the game ASAP.

That does sound like a good idea.
The message would be displayed when coming out of the level in to the keep and ensures people understand they need to close the game, update and restart to continue normal online play.
