I love your games, 《Warhammer 40,000: Darktide》 this game is really cool. Can you add sounds to the game that make the enemy scream, fear and groan on the ground? I really need this. Thank you.
I agree. Violence is too often infantilised in video games. Enemies should gurgle when they die from Bleed and Chem Stacks, flail around screaming when they die from Burn Stacks, et cetera.
Title - Ice Cream Shop would be cooler… but scary
…that would be a lot of screaming…we’ve killed 90 billion enemies… if they all screamed… would enjoy the occasional wilhelm scream.
Isn’t it funny that when it comes to hearing visceral screams of enemies dying, running at or fighting with you, Vermintide 2, a 7-year-old game, achieves this better than Darktide, a 3-year-old game, does? The Northlanders feels so much threatening because of the immaculate voice acting and when you hear a horde of them approaching you can feel the intensity in each voiceline.
Sometimes when I listen to Darktide’s enemy voicelines, I feel as if we’ve been robbed of something that could be a much more intense game, based on the sound design and voice acting alone. FatShark could have gone very hard on the voice acting of the enemies, but they didn’t.
A horde of groaners should be much louder, their steps making a loud rumbling sound, but not as loud as their screams and wails of agony should be. They are literaly trapped in their own bodies suffering and it should be communicated even more intensly than it is now. When they are lit on fire and burn to death, you should very clearly hear, and see in their death animation, just in how much pain they are. The cultist of the Admonition should be much louder and let out visceral screams of rage that blasphemers who deny their truth have dared to enter their sacred grounds. Their machine guns should be much louder and almost deafening when they shoot. Melee Scabs like Maulers and Ragers should also have much more intense screaming in their voicelines when they charge at you.
All of this to say that Darktide had the potential of a very intense game where every enemy feels like a threat based on sound design alone. A single groaner should be heard from very far away, it’s scream reverbing in the tunnels and corridors of the grimdark Hive City. And an entire horde of enemies would create a cacophony of rage, pain, suffering and hatred.
Shame we’ll never see that vision of Darktide come to life…
Groaners do this.
You can’t ever hear it because of the audio mixing.
And then you have the beastmen, where there’s a pretty high chance you can’t hear them, alive or dead until you see them at least once.
With regards to that I think specialist spawn cues and daemonhosts hit the nail on the head. DH voice lines are some of my favorite in the game, especially when awake (but not angry).
anyone remember “cannon fodder” and when you could flip around shot enemies endlessly to an equally never ending “uh uh, ah ah, uh uh…”
imagine that with this sound engine and the floor full of poxers ![]()
row row row you boat
gently down the
aaaahaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaahaaaaah
“Help meeeeeee!!!”
That’s exactly what I was saying.
The same applies to enemy Ogryns and Maulers and Specialists and all shooters, and many more. They all should be much louder, but they aren’t and since FatShark treats fixing issues like adding new content (aka. only when the money from Whales stops flowing do they care and take action), I don’t think we’ll ever have it fixed.
But even aside from that, I still feel that FatShark could have gone harder on the voice acting for all enemies as I explained in my original comment. Yes, even Groaners, despite their already terrifying voicelines.
but if they all get upped in decibel, wouldn’t they cancel each other out again…but “louder” ?

got multiple tinnitus on both ears so 10-12% volume is max for me otherwise the cacophony of bangs&screams gets 5 high pitched and one new bass sound going crazier
Of course, it’s not all black and white. Some enemies should be louder than others. Elites should be louder than Chaff, Ogryns louder than Elites and Bosses louder than Ogryns.
But the starting point would be to increase the volume of the Chaff, and that’s what I was saying.
